France-headquartered Technip Energies and Dutch-based SBM Offshore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the creation of a floating offshore wind joint venture, EkWiL. EkWiL will be a floating wind offshore wind pure play, capable of proposing a wide range of solutions to clients, the companies said. The joint venture will combine the people expertise, engineering and delivery capabilities and complementary technologies of Technip Energies and SBM Offshore to create integrated floating solutions for the floating offshore wind market. EkWiL will operate as a fully integrated team and capacity to develop Technip Energies' semi-submersible floating offshore wind foundation solution (INO15 by T.EN) and the Float4Wind tension leg platform, covering a large spectrum of the floating wind market and bringing them to commercial deployment, according to the partners. With a capacity of 15 megawatts, Technip Energies' INO15 technology is a three-column semi-submersible floater that is well suited for fabrication in large series, according to the company. In other news related to SBM Offshore, in August 2023, the company unveiled plans to build up to 400 MW floating offshore wind farm in Nova Scotia, Canada, together with its partner DP Energy Group. #renewableenergy #wind #carbon60 #engineering #offshorewind #energy

On then ( October 2023 ) : Shell aims to sell its majority stake in the Munmu Baram floating project in  South Korea. The project is being developed by Shell and Hexicon, with Shell holding an 80% stake in the project. The Munmu Baram floating project has a capacity of 1125MW, which will consist of an estimated 84 turbines. The project is part of a Joint Venture in which Shell has an 80% stake. The Joint Venture was established on September 1, 2021, and the project received its first EBL in November 2021. Furthermore, Vestas was selected as the preferred supplier for turbines on November 29, 2022, with plans to use the Vestas V236-15.0MW turbine model. There have been indications that Shell has somewhat shifted its focus away from offshore wind projects, as the company has been withdrawing from floating projects in markets like France and Ireland. Several factors, such as the lengthy permitting process and cost inflation in the industry, may be contributing reasons for the company’s withdrawal from the South Korean market. and now : Hexicon confirms that they have taken full ownership of the MunnuBaram #floatingoffshorewind offshore wind project, confirming that Shell is exiting the project.

🤝 🏗️ Corio Generation and Brazilian shipyard and marine construction company Estaleiros do Brasil (EBR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore how EBR’s facilities could support future offshore wind projects off Brazil’s south coast. Corio and EBR will look at how EBR’s existing infrastructure, located close to Rio Grande port in Brazil’s southern province of Rio Grande do Sul, could support the deployment of two windfarms planned for the south of the country - Cassino Offshore Wind (1,200+ MW) and Rio Grande Offshore Wind (1,200+ MW). Corio is aiming to develop five offshore wind farms in Brazil, totalling up to 6 GW, as part of its significant global portfolio of projects across the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Four of these projects, amounting to approximately 4.8 GW, are located off the southern and south-eastern coastlines of the country. Their jack-up vessel, Innovation, has been pivotal, installing over 1000 monopiles. With the acquisition of A2SEA A/S in 2017, DEME Offshore strengthened its position in the WTG installation market, becoming a leader in recent years. 🌟 ZITON A/S has been a consistent leader in the O&M jack-up intervention market, claiming the top spot for seven of the last eight years. 🌟 Cadeler and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier have also been significant players, with Cadeler topping the charts four times across foundation and turbine installation. Until 2023 with their two jack-ups Wind Orca and Wind Osprey. Their merger with Seajacks last year expanded their fleet with two further jack-ups. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has primarily focused on WTG installation, securing the crown twice and coming in a close second last year. 🌟 Heerema Marine Contractors has increased their focus on offshore wind, leading in foundation installations last year. 🌟 Van Oord has consistently performed well, claiming second places in both foundation and WTG scopes, though they have yet to take the top spot. If approved, Dogger Bank D would enter construction in 2029, at the earliest. Based on this, the developers anticipate wind turbine models available at that time to have a rated capacity between 14 MW and 27+ MW. The 2 GW #offshorewind farm would then comprise a maximum of 122 #windturbines, according to the information in SSE Renewables and Equinor's EIA Scoping Report.
