Into the 21st Century - 'why' are we still using the same tired approaches to space we used last century? New innovation and new #propulsionsystems are required for new vision, new missions, new standards, and a new paradigm of space.
Boeing's first astronaut mission ended Friday night with an empty capsule landing and two test pilots still in space, left behind until next year because NASA judged their return too risky.

Fresh from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the GOES-U satellite launch was nothing short of stellar! Clear blue skies witnessed the mighty SpaceX Falcon Heavy conducting its 10th mission, beautifully slotting NOAA's latest weather sentinel into the cosmos. 🌌 Let's talk specs: GOES-U isn't just another satellite. With imaging speed quintupled and clarity quadrupled compared to its predecessors, this weather-watching powerhouse brings game-changing precision to our fingertips. 🛰️Plus, the new Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) means we're keeping an eye on lightning 24/7, revolutionizing storm tracking. Lockheed Martin has wrapped up a 16-year saga with the GOES-R series, leading to forecasts so sharp, they're akin to crystal balls. And, it's not just Earth's atmosphere on the radar - GOES-U's Compact Coronagraph will be our sentinel against the tempests brewing in space weather. ☀️ Here's to unlocking a deeper understanding of our planet and beyond. Our industry is ascending, and it's the perfect orbit for your career - so join us, and let's reach new heights together! 💫 #SpaceInnovation #WeatherTech #GOESU✨

We should be talking about this near catastrophic incident a lot more. We need space governance and international space traffic management (https://lnkd.in/eyH9A6mp) yesterday.
The recent conjunction between a derelict Russian satellite and a non-maneuverable NASA satellite was only the seventh time in the last two years that two intact, non-maneuverable objects had a conjunction of < 20 meters. The probability of collision for this event was the third largest we registered in LEO since January 2022. A single collision in #LEO could impact thousands of other satellites — for decades. That’s why we must continue to work collaboratively and strategically to ensure this domain remains safe and secure.

First in Space: Stanford's Satellite Swarm Makes Autonomous History Stanford University's Space Rendezvous Lab has successfully tested the first autonomous satellite swarm navigation in orbit. The Starling Formation-Flying Optical Experiment (StarFOX) involved four CubeSats that determined their orbits by sharing visual data through a wireless network. Like sailors using stars for navigation, the satellites relied on star positions instead of GPS or ground systems. The experiment employed advanced algorithms within the Absolute and Relative Trajectory Measurement System (ARTMS) to process images and fine-tune orbits in real-time. By leveraging minimal hardware and low-cost cameras, the team demonstrated how swarms of smaller, cost-effective satellites can improve accuracy, flexibility, and robustness in space operations, with potential benefits for future NASA missions and autonomous space exploration. https://lnkd.in/g8XUGCPN #SatelliteSwarm #SpaceInnovation #AutonomousNavigation #WorldsFirst #SpaceExploration #StanfordUniversity Image Credit: NASA/Blue Canyon Technologies

Orbital debris, aka space trash, is what's left floating outside our atmosphere when an space object is no longer in use. The Orbital Sustainability (Orbits) ACT is a bipartisan and bicameral bill aimed at reducing the amount of space trash. It directs NASA to establish a demonstration program with industry to develop technology that removes the debris from orbit. https://lnkd.in/gqjNkn9P

Navigating new terrains in space is no small feat, but NASA is making significant strides with advanced optical navigation technology. These cutting-edge developments promise to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and autonomy of future space missions. Importance of Optical Navigation Traditional GPS systems don't work in space, making optical navigation essential. #3Denvironmentmodeling #autonomousnavigation #deeplearningnavigation #imageanalysis #Lunarexploration #NASAadvancements #opticalnavigationtech #planetaryexploration #sensordata #thxnews
