Happy International Women's Day! Today, we celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of women around the world, and for me, especially those in the field of engineering. To all the brilliant engineers in my network who happen to be women, your dedication, innovation, and perseverance inspire us all. If you're dedicated to advancing inclusion in the STEM field, I urge you to take proactive steps within your local communities - one way to do this is by mentoring younger students, as fostering inclusion in our industry should begin at the grassroots level of education. If you're looking to advance inclusion at your own employer - one way to do this is to adocate for policies within your workplace that promote gender diversity, I.E. paid parental leave and covered-reproductive health benefits. Data-driven interventions and #InspiringInclusion of women! Central to recent global discourse on gender equality and inclusion is the acknowledgment that data-driven interventions play a pivotal role in advancing inclusion of women across various sectors and domains. This was key to our discussions at last year’s 67th CSW in New York, on harnessing the power of data to identify barriers, design targeted interventions and measure progress in programming locally and globally to enhance inclusive and safe educational spaces for women and girls. Data-driven interventions present opportunities to catalyse positive change on women’s inclusion. The ongoing work by Gender Mobile Initiative, End Rape On Campus and many other organizations continue to inform transformative measures for inclusive educational attainment for women and girls and promote gender responsive educational systems that are scalable within and across regions. Today, not only have more young women been empowered to assert their rights by holding systems in higher education institutions accountable, but also, these previously neglected educational spaces are experiencing systemic changes as more institutions adopt comprehensive gender responsive policies and other strategic measures to ensure equitable and inclusive educational spaces. This International Women’s Day #InspireInclusion campaign presents an opportunity to beam the spotlight on how data-driven interventions serve as a linchpin for ensuring inclusion of women in previously excluded or marginalised spaces. It is also a collective campaign to forge more gender equity efforts against the existing landscape of gender disparities and barriers to inclusion through the tremendous potentials of our evidence-based advocacy. #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion
