This week, May 12-18, is National Women's Health Week! Biomolecular chemist Claudia Maier, alongside a multidisciplinary team including researchers from College of Engineering – Oregon State University and Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences, are using a Research and Innovation Seed (SciRIS) Program grant from the College of Science to study triple-negative #breastcancer. The researchers are working on a technique called single-cell proteomics, allowing them to study differences in cellular characteristics at an individual cell level. It will impact what we know about disease progression, outcomes and treatment. The team was made possible through SciRIS funding of collaborative research! This collaborative aspect of breast cancer research is so important as the knowledge of it is limited if considered from just one field. Check out this link to read more about the incredible work that this team is doing for women's health: https://beav.es/cyR. #womenshealth #breastcancer #breastcancerawareness #nationalwomenshealthweek #teamscience #thisiswhatascientistlookslike #cancerresearch

On July 9th and July 10th we have had a very successful R2 summer school to introduce researchers to the concepts and basic features of R2. More than 250 participants joined online! They listened to the presentations by the R2 support team, and put their own ideas to the test in the hands-on sessions. Support was available via Zoom break-out rooms. We look back at very rewarding sessions where the R2 team also got to know new users, helped them with their research questions and obtained valuable feedback to improve R2 even further. The R2 genomics analysis and visualization platform is designed to be used by wet lab and biomedical researchers. Utilize more than 2,450 public resources (including TCGA, DepMap, GTEx) in numerous analyses and re-use data from others to test your own hypotheses. R2 has already been cited in NCBI PubMed 2,625 times and has a user base composed of more than 250,000 IP addresses. Join the growing community of R2 users and try the versatile open online platform too. It's free for academic research. Tiny Molecules Win Big: How Two Scientists Unlocked the Secret “Chatter” Between Genes and Nabbed the Nobel Prize! 🎉 Congrats to this year’s Nobel Medicine winners, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun! These two brilliant scientists discovered microRNAs, tiny molecules that help genes “talk” to each other and guide how cells grow and function. 🤔Think of microRNAs as the ultimate traffic controllers, helping build everything from tissues to organs by telling genes when to start, stop, or shift direction. Ambros describes microRNAs as a “communication network amongst genes” that creates complex structures in our bodies. This discovery isn’t just fascinating; it’s already reshaping genetic research and holds exciting possibilities for treating diseases like cancer. Ambros and Ruvkun’s work is a fantastic reminder of how science can surprise us and lead to breakthroughs! #science #longevity #pharma #research #businessinside #health #healthcare #treatment #nobelprize https://lnkd.in/dNZrXDrF
