It's International Day of Girls in ICT and I am so excited that we are unveiling our Girls Advocacy Handbook named Tech Girls Squad. Its been a year of working on this, conducting research, writing the script, having reading sessions, designing and finally, we are announcing this on a day that encapsulates our mission to see more girls become contributors in Tech. Through our TechGirls Drive advocacy program where we have reached 115,000+ young girls across 74 cities in 25 countries, we have always had 2 key questions unanswered: First one is beyond the 2-3 hour touchpoint with the girls, how do we empower them with more knowledge that will ensure a sustained interest in STEM? The second question is how do we empower them to speak with their guardians about their interest in STEM? Thats where the Tech Girls Squad Handbook comes in. It shares the story of Maria, Mona, Wathoni and Lerato, four girls from Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and South Africa, who are students of a fictitious Love Abode International School. They find their passion for technology after an encounter with successful women working in various tech fields who paid a visit to their school to share their experiences and achievements and introduced the girls to the fascinating world of technology. This was modeled after how we engage during our Tech Girls Drive. Our unveiling is just one step. We will be rolling out an official book launch and I am most elated for that. I will be sharing more details on this soon. #techgirlsdrive #internationaldayofgirlsinict #TechGirlsSquad #tech4dev

Have you ever wondered what the tech industry would look like if every child had the chance to pursue their passion for IT? 👩💻 Recently, we received an inspiring message from a young girl from the Ashanti Region of Ghana: "I have always been fascinated by computers and how they work. I dream of becoming a software engineer one day, but opportunities to learn are limited in my community. I am eager to join your programs and learn more about Information Technology so I can achieve my dreams and help others in my region." 🌟 Yesterday, our Project Lead, Mr. Peter, shared a touching story about many of his friends faced significant challenges after completing Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS). Society often fails to support these young girls, leading to situations where many become pregnant and are labeled with unfair and harmful names. The blame is frequently placed on these vulnerable girls, ignoring the systemic issues and lack of opportunities that contribute to their situations. 🤔 How can we change this narrative and provide the support these young girls need to thrive? Our Solution: 👉 Accessible Education Programs: We offer IT workshops and boot camps to equip young girls and boys in SHS and JHS with valuable skills and open up new career paths. 👉 Mentorship and Guidance: Connecting students with industry professionals who can offer advice, support, and inspiration.(External required courses like Emotional Intelligence, Power of Networking, Organizational Behavior etc.) 👉 Community Engagement: Working with local communities to change perceptions and create a supportive environment for girls pursuing their education and career goals. 👉 Scholarships and Financial Aid: Providing scholarship support in our programs to ensure that economic barriers do not stand in the way of education. 🚀 Our Impact: 📚 Over 10 number of workshops and coding boot camps have been conducted in JHS and SHS in Accra Ghana. 💡 More than 60 number of students have been empowered with IT skills and have gain experience on how to work with industries. 🌍 Building a diverse and inclusive tech community where there is no gender discrimination. Want to Get Involved? ✨Volunteer as a mentor ✨Sponsor a program ✨Spread the word by sharing our mission Together, we can create a brighter future where technology is accessible to all. Let’s inspire the next generation of tech leaders! 🌐✨ #TechForGood #WomenInTech #FutureInnovators #STEMEducation #TechCharity #EmpowermentThroughIT

Why Girls Who Code Today Will Be the Innovators of Tomorrow: An African Perspective For years, African girls have been pushed into traditional roles like teaching or secretarial work, with the belief that they lack the stamina for technical fields like coding. But this outdated view is being challenged. Across the continent, more girls are learning to code, empowered by initiatives like Girls Who Code and Women in Tech Africa. Coding not only helps break gender norms, but also equips girls with the tools to address Africa’s unique challenges through technology. Women bring a unique perspective—they have the ability to identify problems that others may overlook. With coding skills, they can turn these insights into solutions that benefit their communities in healthcare, education, business, and beyond. Programs across Africa are fostering a new generation of female tech innovators, proving that girls have the creativity, resilience, and intelligence to thrive in tech—and lead Africa into a brighter future. Ready to take the first step? Register today at programs.com and start your tech journey! #GirlsWhoCode #WomenInTech #DiversityInTech #Empowerment #ProgfamsTechnology #WebDevelopment #Innovation

Happy International Girls in ICT Day! Rhoda's story showcases resilience and the transformative impact of digital technology. At 18, this single mother from Gbuduwyi, FCT, faced daunting challenges after dropping out of school due to pregnancy and losing her parents. With three younger sisters to care for, Rhoda taught herself baking to earn a living. While Rhoda's baking skills were still growing, her reach remained confined to just her local neighbourhood without access to digital marketing skills. Until she became one of the beneficiaries of Tech Herfrica's Scale Her Initiative, done in partnership with Finishers Initiative for Social Transformation (FIST Africa), she was equipped with digital literacy, financial management, and entrepreneurship skills. Rhoda learned to use social media to expand her customer base and built an e-commerce presence, essential for reaching broader markets. With the newfound knowledge and mobile internet access, Rhoda can now use her smartphone to connect to vast online markets. Putting her training into action, she created a local Facebook group for girls in her community to market their services collectively, fostering a powerful support network. Today, that group provides an endless stream of orders as Rhoda shares beautifully decorated cake photos and videos in Tech Herfrica’s WhatsApp cluster group which is used to sustain continuous learning, drawing customers from well beyond her community. "I've grown my customer base and income so much by selling online," she said. On International Girls in ICT Day, we celebrate trailblazers like Rhoda whose inspirational stories remind us that equipping young women with digital tools, skills and connectivity can kickstart entire families out of poverty cycles. Rhoda's success, replicated across every beneficiary of our Scale Her initiative, proves the lasting impact of integrating digital inclusion with entrepreneurship for girls in rural and underserved communities. As we work to bridge the digital divide in rural Africa, such stories energize our mission to create more #DigitalHERoes whose empowerment inspires and develops whole communities. #techherfrica #digitalinclusion #internationalgirlsinictday #bridgingthedigitaldivide

New Spot applications are still open until Friday 3rd May! 💥EduSpots is looking for teams of community members who are keen to join the EduSpots network as we continue to gradually expand our network of Spots across Ghana. 👉Apply at this link by Friday 3rd May 2024: https://lnkd.in/eCQBWFu7 🎯What are the requirements? We are looking for passionate groups of individuals who are already leading education projects of some form within their communities, whether a community library, or a literacy, STEM, environmental or gender equity activity. We are looking for committed volunteers to apply in groups of at last four individuals who are keen to be actively involved in the project into the future. Communities should already have a space of some form to store educational resources, alongside a safe space for learning to take place (even if outside under a tree). We usually work in rural underserved communities in Ghana, but are happy to hear from anyone who think they might align with our model and values. 🥁What are the benefits? Through joining our network, you would gain access to: * Our Ignite, Catalyse and Peer Mentor training programmes and regional conferences * Staff support (in the areas of early years literacy, JHS literacy, STEM, girls empowerment and Spot Leadership) alongside support from regional coordinators and a network of wider Changemakers! * Wider resources such as books and phonics cards. You will also be able to apply for grant funding in the future, alongside other members of our network. Note that we do not build libraries or schools (unless you have proven your impact over the longer term), and that we are looking for projects who already have a functioning space for holding activities. This process is competitive. Please do take the time to answer in significant depth, giving us all the detail we need to review your application. For the longer questions, we would expect 100+ words of detail. 📧Contact info@eduspots.org if you have any questions relating to this application process. #newspots #growth #ourcollectivefuture
