Within days of launching, both cohorts of Foundations: Investing with a Gender Lens filled up, are oversubscribed, and the waitlist for the third is nearly full. A strong sense of community is at the crux of how this happened. As part of Future Capital's integration with Spring, this is a new iteration of the fan favourite Foundations program that was successfully delivered to more than 25 previous cohorts, and has now drawn in alumni participants. Since joining Toast as a Community Manager, I've had the privilege of connecting with women in tech across Canada. This has led to further cross-collaboration with communities built by women, including Amelia, Women in Healthtech, Femtech Canada, Cap Inclusive, and Mosaic Accelerator. It's incredible to have people I've met through these networks joining the cohorts. Spring's Impact Investor Socials held coast-to-coast have been instrumental in creating spaces for knowledge exchange. This, coupled with the team's ability to leverage their professional networks, drove participation. One common roadblock I hear from people interested in starting their investing journey is, "not having someone to talk about this stuff with". "A very harsh proof and reality check about "Women in Business." We created this community "Women Community Clubs" to empower new emerging businesswomen & entrepreneurs and I thought to promote the message among "Women founders" who are a part of my 800 LinkedIn connections and guess what? It hardly took me 10 minutes, because there were less than "50" women in business in my network, though I had around "300-400" females on LinkedIn Connection. It's very sad to see as I have clients who are female founders but they started their careers very late due to lots of social or family responsibilities but I can't explain how exceptionally good they are with their work. What If they started early in their lives? I wanted to promote my community but not via this kind of post. We need new input. Things get super weird otherwise. (I'll share one of my #MidJourney re-prompt nightmares with you if you ask nicely.) We need new input in #AI. Same goes for “innovation,” which can sometimes (often) feel like it's stuck in a #loop. Just go take a look at the billboards along Highway 101... *yaaaaaawn* I've said it before, and I'll say it again, *innovation doesn't happen in isolation.* Last week, at the #llamalounge Amazon Web Services (AWS) event, I watched woman after woman get on stage and pitch their AI startups. Jeremiah Owyang spoke briefly about what a mistake it would be to not have women's voices in tech and AI and that is why he prioritizes them. He's not wrong. And *now* is the time to invest in them.
