Is the case for B2B OMS flows "soft" still? Well, kind of.... Look - Retail B2C OMS - No brainer. 100's of stores, 1000's of SKU's... lower AOV but with 2-ish lines per order. Dead ringer for needing order-routing logic to avoid split shipments while balancing network inventory (and showing visibility). B2B flows? Typically, 100's of lines (or at least dozens). Set shipping schedules, set carriers, maybe a dozen DC's in the network, max... So, where's the value? There's an orchestration component here that is misunderstood. The broader O2C flow itself needs better processes, and the orchestration/pipeline/workflow of the OMS can better help integrate and validate the flows in the order to cash cycle, better than most ERP solution (or, at last more dynamically). There's an inventory component here, but most ERPs now have ways to show inventory and make it available through an API. That's no longer competitive edge. *Dynamic* balancing of the inventory allocated to each channel and within each channel still is a leading aspect of B2B OMS. The ERP will do this, but daily, and reactively. The OMS can rebalance how much stock becomes *available* to B2C vs. B2B channels based on changes/shifts in demand, in weather, in supply exceptions. There's about a half dozen more examples, but the "soft" case is only soft when the ERP isn't lacking and there's not enough complexity to require an advanced OMS. That's when an ERP and a well-designed iPaaS / Order Operations platform is a perfect fit. NET - Not every company needs an OMS.. but the ones that do, in B2B, go to Perficient for viewpoint and support.... https://lnkd.in/eGmJ2-kR #ordermanagement #B2B #Commerce

"...and we need a X system / application...". The next need is to understand how X plays with the rest of the "alphabet" you know as your digital landscape. I like to say the 90+ percent of the Customer Experience is invisible to the customer and you; why, because the experience after (and even part of) the purchase is the responsibility of the Supply Chain. System working in harmony can make or break that experience. Two of the critical systems that must work together are #OMS and #WMS. Let's explore...(I even throw in a eCommerce and ERP reference) https://lnkd.in/erBkfZrq I have not written in a bit, I hope this is a worthy return... Friday OMS Trivia in support of having an OMS Strategy. Who said these three (3) quotes: “ 90% of the customer experience takes place in the Supply Chain and is invisible to the buyer, purchaser, shopper, customer. Managing the end to end experience requires the capabilities found in an OMS.” “There are no SLAs in Retail, only the Retailers’ promise and the customers’ expectation. There are infinite numbers of SLAs in the B2B world. The responsibility for managing the promises and expectations of both B2B and B2C after they “click the buy button”is that of a modern and flexibly architected Order Management System.” “If your business manages orders in your ERP System and eCommerce Platform, that is where the conversation with your advisors should start, not where the conversation ends.” Talk to an OMS professional today. #oms #orderwanagement #ordermanagementsystem #supplychain #ontimeinfull #marketplace #B2B #B2C #D2C
