Gender Pay Gap We cannot be satisfied with the current modest rate of change when it comes to gender pay gap . It needs to be addressed urgently by employers and business leaders to accelerate much needed change. Our “ Women Count” report published in 2023 identified workplace culture as a significant obstacle. There are solutions- fairer internal processes and decisions, better work-life flexibility, championing role models and ending “ the woman tax” where women not men, are allocated additional duties alongside their day jobs . Women joining the workforce should be able to enjoy pay parity during their entire course of careers . As I read this article I could only think of my current organization. We are a DoD school, placed under the Army as its executive agency, but the official language of the school is Spanish. All courses are taught in Spanish. Therefore, 90 percent of the personnel are of Latino/Hispanic ethnicity, including military and civilians. Back to the article context, at our organization, we differ in regards to our leadership because it has primarily been non-Latino. Are we doing a disservice by having non-Latinos/Hispanics in leadership positions in our organization?

Among all the stats/data shared this IWD, one thing stood out for me: globally, we spend $2.2 trillion in 2022 (+3.7% vs previous year) in military expenses. #inclusivity isn't just about representation; to me it's about redefining leadership. We must shift from a model rooted in conflict and fear to one that embraces and uplifts all individuals. It was a special pleasure for me and Ievgeniia Kopytsia join the #BritishAcademy Summer Showcase and present our thoughts on women’s leadership in #environmentalpeacebuilding. Ukrainian women who fled the country during the war have become informal ambassadors abroad, showcasing a new kind of #leadership. They not only talk about the war and work to support Ukraine but have also gained #trust and respect for Ukraine. Ukraine demonstrates a unique case of women's leadership, with an increasing focus on women as agents, not just victims, including in their roles in #peacebuilding processes. The Ukrainian experience shows that for reconstruction to result in stable, #sustainable development and bring tangible benefits to all Ukrainians, the principles of "building back better" must take the gender dimension into consideration.
