🚀 Hackathon: 36 Hours of Non-Stop Innovation! 🚀 I’m thrilled to share that I recently participated in my very first hackathon, and it was an unforgettable experience! 🎉 The 36-hour event was a true test of creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork under intense pressure, giving me a fresh perspective on collaboration and innovation. From brainstorming unique ideas to coding through the night, the journey was full of learning moments. Working with my amazing teammates— Varsha Pednekar, Divya Chaudhari, Sachi Mali, and Esha Kamble—we encountered challenges that pushed us to think on our feet, adapt quickly, and leverage each other's strengths to come up with practical solutions. It was exciting to see our ideas evolve into a working prototype within such a tight timeframe. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, continuous learning, and how to stay focused even when the clock is ticking. It was also a great opportunity to connect with talented individuals, and I’m incredibly grateful for the insights I gained. While the hours were long and the pressure was high, the sense of accomplishment at the end was unmatched. I’m already looking forward to participating in more hackathons and applying everything I learned! 💻💡 #Hackathon #FirstHackathon #Innovation #Teamwork #TechJourney #ContinuousLearning #Coding

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed judges, and fellow participants, As I stand here before you, I am filled with a mixture of excitement, anticipation, and a slight tinge of nervousness. This is my first hackathon experience, and I must admit, the energy in this room is palpable. From the moment I walked in, I could feel the buzz of creativity and innovation in the air. The atmosphere is electric, with teams huddled together, brainstorming ideas, tapping away at keyboards, and scribbling furiously on whiteboards. I am awestruck by the diverse range of talents and skills present in this room. From seasoned developers to budding entrepreneurs, everyone is here with one common goal: to collaborate, create, and push the boundaries of what is possible. As a newcomer to this world of hackathons, I am eager to soak in as much knowledge and experience as I can. I am here to learn, to challenge myself, and to contribute to something meaningful. Though the journey ahead may be filled with late nights, coffee-fueled coding sessions, and the occasional technical hiccup, I am ready to dive in headfirst. I am excited to see what ideas we can bring to life, what problems we can solve, and what impact we can make. So, to my fellow participants, I say: let's embrace the spirit of collaboration, let's unleash our creativity, and let's make this hackathon an experience to remember. Thank you. #frosthacks #hackathonexperience #hackathonsuccess #hackathon

Why should you attend a hackathon in your first year? 🚀 Hackathons aren't just about coding; they're about creativity, collaboration, and bringing ideas to life. When I participated in my first hackathon, I never imagined I would walk away with the winning title. The experience taught me the importance of having a strong idea at the core of any project. It’s not just about technical skills but how you think outside the box and solve real-world problems. Winning was a bonus, but the real prize was the growth, learning, and connections I gained along the way. So, if you're in your first year and wondering whether you should take the plunge—do it! Your idea could be the next big thing. 💡 #Hackathon #FirstYear #Innovation #GrowthMindset #TechJourney

🔥 Hot Take: Most Hackathon Winners Don't Deserve It (Including Some of Mine) 🔥 Controversial? Maybe. True? Often. And I'm saying this as someone with multiple hackathon wins under my belt. I've seen calculator apps beat AI-powered solutions, and GPT Wrappers trump complex ML models. But here's the kicker: those "unfair" losses taught me more than any win ever could. It's easy to get frustrated at hackathons and think about giving up. But let me tell you - perseverance is key. Here are three times I almost gave up, and what I learned instead: 1. CruzHacks 2023: David vs. Goliath Our real-time bus tracking app for UCSC (built with Raspberry Pis and radio transmitters) lost to... a calculator app that made one calculation. 🤯 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. We had no buses running on weekends, so our demo was all slides. Next time? We'll simulate our data! 2. HackSC24: The Relatable Factor Our computer vision-based medicine classifier and adaptive scheduler lost to a list comparison app. 🤔 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆 ≠ 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲. We nailed the demo but fumbled the pitch. Judges couldn't see the real-world impact. Now we know - always connect tech to actual benefits! 3. MHacks X Google: The Disqualification We got disqualified for using an open-source template repository. Ouch. 😅 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻: 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁. Always check the rules thoroughly. This taught us to start from scratch and truly showcase our skills. 🔑 Key Takeaway: Winning or losing doesn't define your hackathon experience. The real value is in what you learn, how you grow, and the connections you make. So, fellow hackers, next time it's 6pm, you just lost to a GPT Wrapper, and you're wondering why you even did the hackathon - remember this post. Push through. Your biggest "loss" might just be your most valuable win. And if you win? Stay humble, recognize the element of luck, and keep learning. 🚨 Ready to dive into hackathons? Insightful post for hackers by Bill. ++ Dear Hackathon Organizers and Judges, a reminder that Hackathons are not 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 Competitions! ✍ ⏰ It's that time again—many hackathons 💻 will be organized in the upcoming months. As in the past, I will be encouraging many peers to participate. With firsthand experience, I know organizers put in tireless efforts to run hackathons smoothly. Judges contribute their valuable time and insights to provide feedback to teams. The world is thankful to you! 🤗 ⚡ AI use cases will likely make up more than 90% of project submissions. Therefore, I would like to request that organizers 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 for volunteer judges and ensure hackathons don't end up being just about pitching ideas 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Yes, that happens more often than we think :( 💡 Showcasing your core idea with implementation is of utmost importance, in my opinion. Sometimes, students only realize the real world challenges in executing what they thought while coding, and that's what hackers should be rewarded for—did you recognize and overcome challenges in a seemingly straightforward idea (fully or partially)? 👨🏫 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗽 - Once, a judge asked me, "What's your innovation in this project?" I was happy to share an ...algorithm that our team created from scratch. He probably wasn’t expecting it (based on the past 10 projects he had judged) and was more than impressed, so much so that he came back to learn more after he completed his assigned judging list. I'm not saying everyone must have some innovation, but something beyond API calls distinguishes you. Let's stop winning hackathons with just an impressive slide deck and UI. #hacakthons #judging
