For well over 200 years, scholars have poured over the U.S. Constitution to tease out the nuance, intention, and practical applications of the country’s most revered founding document. One of the top modern Constitutional scholars, our client Cass Sunstein, recently joined the National Constitution Center to discuss his new book, “How to Interpret the Constitution.” 📜 In the discussion, he provides an accessible window into today’s broad – and sometimes not so broad – interpretations of The Constitution.

"Today, on September 17th, we commemorate a pivotal moment in history when the United States Constitution was signed in 1787. This historic event marked the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, where visionary delegates came together to sign the final draft. Their collective wisdom and foresight created the enduring framework for the American government we still rely on today. 🇺🇸📜 #ConstitutionDay #USHistory #Government"

In the context of sovereignty, there’s an interesting observation by the Supreme Court in the Article 370 ruling. It says: “Dicey’s comment (extracted above) is evidently with reference to internal sovereignty because the unrestricted power to make laws concerns individuals and associations within a state, as opposed to the relationship between two nations.” I have only read the sovereignity and the history of J&K section in this 476 page ruling. It’s a fascinating and highly recommended read.
