I love this, and I would add one more thing: 3) Raise your hand So many hard workers do great at their job, but don’t see it as their “right” to ask for what they want next, or voice their desire for an opening that shows itself. I see this often, but of course not exclusively, with women, and I think it’s an important part of career maturity to know that if you are a strong, hard worker, you deserve the next thing that has either already presented itself, or that there may be space for.

At Rocket Fuel, George John called it Nerdy, but loveable (George, I spelled it with your preferred spelling).. translated as Nerdy: be incredible at your job, geek out about it and constantly improve, whether your department wants sales, accounting, machine learning, etc. be Nerdy about it Loveable: be helpful, supportive, and nice to everyone around you, clients, partners, and employees. Create an inclusive welcoming environment. In employee reviews there would be one question on how you were nerdy and another on loveable

...and being innately aware of how both of those factors play into one another -- especially for the leaders driving the culture and creating that environment for their individual teams. It's hard to find the chicken/egg in this analogy, but both definitely need to be present to get the most out of the talented people you bring into the fold.
