Vasu H C asked for Some guide on freelancing as tester. So I decided to jot it down here. So as a tester there are plenty of options to go for as a freelancer. As a manual tester you can help people to 1. Write test cases 2. Prepare test plans 3. Write bug reports 4. Ensure product quality And many more Similarly as an automation engineer you can provide services as 1. Automation Framework developer 2. Automation trainer 3. My Experience with Selenium, Cypress, and Playwright: I started using Selenium with Python for automation tasks, but my job required me to learn new tools. So, I tried Cypress and Playwright, both with JavaScript. These tools are great, but I noticed they don't have as many resources or community support as Selenium. After some time, I decided to stick with Selenium, but this time with Java. Selenium has a large community and lots of helpful content online, which makes it easier to find answers and get support. It also allows for more customization, so you can set up things just the way you like. Cypress and Playwright are good, but they still have room to grow—they haven't yet reached the level of community support that Selenium with Java has. However, the reality is that I really enjoyed working with Playwright and Cypress. These tools each have their own pros and cons, and it all depends on your requirements to decide which one to use. If you prefer modern design and straightforward setups, Cypress and Playwright can be great options. For broader community support and more established practices, Selenium with Java might be a better choice. Overall, every tool has its own strengths, and the right choice depends on your project needs. BUG IN THE PROD? Don't Blame Your Developers! A Software Engineer friend who's a freelancer got a high-paying job, EZ 6-digit salary. His client is a newbie in the field of software development but he is quite famous in his field. My friend built the MVP in under a month, but it's quite unstable. My friend asked him to hire a QA to ensure the quality, and the client responded: "No need, you can do the testing and we are about to deploy in 1 week." The client wants to push the deployment to "VALIDATE THE IDEA". They push the deployment and his client reaches out to "Potential users" from his network. The majority of the feedback is "The Product is Buggy." The client didn't like the feedback and blamed my friend.😅 --- Folks! The Developers are supposed to focus on development, not on Software testing. Am not saying they shouldn't run Unit Testing. But their main role is to build, and develop. Yes, yes, you can ask them to test but when a bug comes out in the prod, you blame yourself for not getting a QA Engineer. Each role has their function, Dev can be flexible but they are not built for testing roles, if they do, they probably work as a tester, not a dev. ;) GET YOUR QA NOW!
