Studying at Digital Skola has been a precious experience for learning about Technical Writing and sharing experiences with Mr. Mochammad Farhan Cahya Putra, a Senior Technical Writer. We discussed various materials covering Technical Writing and its role in the digital world. The two-day class focused on theoretical knowledge and practical exercises related to documentation writing. On the first day, we discussed an introduction to Technical Writing, the necessary skills, and some fundamentals to train technical writing proficiency. Many people mistakenly believe that Technical Writing skills are unnecessary in companies due to unfamiliarity. However, Mr. Mochammad Farhan Cahya Putra explained that this skill has limited competition but can still compete with popular Digital Writing skills, such as Content Writing or Copywriting. On the second day, Mr. Mochammad Farhan Cahya Putra provided an overview of examples of documentation typically handled by a Technical Writer, including Software Requirement Specification (SRS), User Acceptance Test (UAT), User Manual/User Guide, Technical Documentation, API Documentation, and Standard Operational Procedure Documentation. Each document serves its purpose. Last Monday, 29 April 2024, I had the opportunity to learn about Technical Writing in the Technical Writing Short Course from Digital Skola. Previously, I had known a little about Technical Writing based on my experience in the IT field and I took this opportunity to increase and deepen my Technical Writing knowledge for better career development in the future. My impression of this class was very pleasant, many of the friends in the class were very enthusiastic in learning about Technical Writing taught by Kak Lia Amanda as a tutor in session 1. In session 1, I learned about the basic knowledge of technical writing, what tools just what is commonly used, tips & tricks for creating documentation, and several types of documentation that are usually created by Technical Writers. I also gained knowledge that to be a technical writer we must be able to write well-organized writing, use good and correct language, and most importantly, easy to understand. I am also very grateful to Kak Mochammad Farhan Cahya Putra, who was the tutor in session 2 for the knowledge that he had been given on Friday, 3 May 2024. In session 2, I learned how to create a template or framework for a technical document, understood how to create important elements in a technical document template, and was able to create a technical document template that was professional and easy to use and understood by users and readers. Important things that refer to the creation of technical documents are in terms of images provided, system flow explained in diagrams, presentation of data in the form of visualization, addition of data tables to help readers understand the data more easily, As well as the importance of using Index, Variables, and Glossary in creating technical documents. During the 2 days of the technical writing short course, I broadened my knowledge and insight regarding technical writing, especially knowledge about technical documents. I quite enjoyed and very grateful to be able to learned and increased my knowledge as a technical writer. This is the best course that I have found because it’s very rare, in fact there is not a single technical writing course that I have found so far. Last week, on 12th and 14th of February, I had a chance to learn more about technical writing in Short Course Technical Writing by Digital Skola. Previously I had known briefly about Technical Writing in Digital Writing Camp, also by Digital Skola. In this short course, I gained a lot more about Technical Writing with Kak Lia Amanda and Mas Mochammad Farhan Cahya Putra as the mentors. In the 1st session with Kak Lia, I learn about basic skills needed as Technical Writer, tools, tips & tricks doing Technical Writing, and 6 types of document that are being used often in Technical Writing work field. I also gained an insight that Technical Writer is not just creating and optimizing the documents, but Technical Writer has a worth and value in IT field. In the 2nd session, I learn about of Technical Documentation and its component such as image, variables, flowchart, graph & chart, tables, index, and glossary with Mas Farhan. The deep-down of Technical Documentation taught me that Technical Writer should know what should have and should not have defined in Technical Document according to its target user who will read the documentation, so the content of the documentation is clear and precise. During 2 days of the short course, I discover more things about Technical Writing, which broaden my perspective on how Technical Writing actually is in practice. I enjoyed all the sessions that are presented by 2 amazing mentors which are experienced in Technical Writing for years.
