🔴 Marks & Spencer will open a record number of #stores this month as it ramps up its bet on the high street. The #retailer said it has spent £80m to open a total of nine stores in November. These include six new stores in locations including Birmingham’s Bullring, Manchester’s Trafford Centre and the Lakeside shopping centre in Essex. It is aiming to go from having 247 larger stores that stock #food, #clothing and #homeware products to 180 more productive and higher quality larger #shops. It is also planning to open more than 100 food halls, amid solid demand for #groceries. The changes are expected to save it more than £300m in #rent, it said in a presentation last year. The shake-up in its stores comes as part of a wider turnaround, which in September allowed M&S to return to the FTSE 100 almost four years after it was ejected.
