Let girls shine! Girls in STEAM are significantly underrepresented. They self exclude themselves from these disciplines as soon as the age of 8, because they consider themselves to be “less smart” than their male counterparts. Or at least, that’s what society leads them to think. By engaging girls in STEAM disciplines at a young age, and showing them that technology can be implemented with purpose, the Vodafone Foundation empowers girls to reach their full potential. By working alongside educators, and giving them the digital and 21st century skills they need to transform teaching and learning experiences, they become agents of change in their students’ lives. Although Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields are widely regarded as critical to national economies, so far most countries, no matter their level of development, have not achieved gender equality in STEM. According to a McKinsey study on gender equality, if all girls in India complete their education and join the workforce, our country could add a staggering $770 billion to its GDP by 2025.
