Last week at #RoutesAsia in Langkawi I had the pleasure of moderating a panel on Disruption – How the Asia-Pacific Market is Responding.   Our excellent panellists, Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Paul Carroll and Majid Khan, discussed several disruptive factors which have forced aviation in the Asia-Pacific region and further afield to react. Airlines and airports have had to respond with shorter planning cycles while also managing, for example, unintended consequences from trade disruption. The slow reopening of the China market has also been a major factor in coping with shortages of aircraft.   If there is one lesson to take away from the panel, it’s that the industry will inevitably face many disruptive events in future - and will continue responding to them with agility.

Sharing recent news about airline ex China. China airports are facing more canceled flights and higher cargo volumes, causing tight air space and rising airfreight rates. At South China airports: CAN airport-----CA space is booked until this month-end. SZX airport-----CA is  is not quoting and waiting for new rates. SZX airport-----TK space is booked until 22nd Mar. For new air shipments, we suggest to book space early.

Lufthansa Cargo expands network and adds new destinations in China Lufthansa Cargo flies to two more Asian stations with its B777F long-haul fleet from its home hub in Frankfurt: The carrier has now added Shenzhen Boa’an International Airport (SZX) to its freighter network for the first time and will serve it twice a week in the future. The Lufthansa Group’s logistics expert has also recently started operating freighters to Zhengzhou (CGO) three days a week. “In the Chinese market, the e-commerce business segment in particular is growing steadily, and we continue to see high demand, especially to Europe. Accordingly, additional air freight capacity is needed to transport goods quickly, compliantly, and safely. With the expansion of our Asian network, we can now serve even more important freight destinations in China for our customers. This will be possible thanks to the new B777F freighter, which we expect to receive in the course of this summer. This will not only mean enabling global business for our customers in a sustainable way but also growing as a company in an important cargo region,” explains Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. Etihad 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐨 is expanding its 𝐔𝐒 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 by adding 𝟐𝟓𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 to its current 500 tonnes of weekly capacity to 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. New flights will service 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐠𝐨, 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧, 𝐁𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨, with connections via European gateways like 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐛𝐨𝐧, 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐝, and 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐞, in partnership with network airlines.
