#LEO satellite and other Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) create spectrum challenges and opportunities, and Telesat’s Dr. Laura Roberti is an expert in both aspects of this complex equation. If you’re attending #ismc24, which is hosted by the ITU-APT Foundation of India, be sure to catch Dr. Roberti’s keynote presentation during this in-depth session. Session topics include the role of satellite and NTNs in providing ubiquitous connectivity, licensing and regulatory aspects of spectrum and orbital resources, NTN compatibility with #GEO satellites, and #space sustainability. It was an honor to participate in the Space European Conference #SEC2024 (Brussels) representing CCDR-Norte. The multiple interventions by portuguese entities and experts, including, #PTspace, #CEiiA, and #GEOSAT, among others, demonstrate the range of ongoing activities in this sector. Of particular notice the launch of the ‘Atlantic Constellation’ initiative by CEiiA, in the framework of the “New Space Portugal” agenda, which has full support from the Norte. The aerospace sector is one of the priority areas I have identified for innovation in the Norte, not only for its business relevance (most significantly downstream satellite data applications), but mostly because #space technologies are currently (and evermore) pervasive in our daily lives, from communications to geolocation, from earth observation to orbit-based sensor mapping in support of sustainability and decarbonization.

Anuvu announces NuView-Alpha and NuView-Bravo as Anuvu Constellation prepares for launch Anuvu announces the names of the first two satellites in the Anuvu Constellation, NuView-A and NuView-B. Named to reflect Anuvu’s “new view” of the mobility connectivity market, the NuView duet is a new class of High Throughput Satellite (HTS) that will form a key element in the geostationary orbit layer of the Anuvu network. After many years as the world’s largest lessor of geostationary satellite capacity, Anuvu is set to become a satellite operator with the launch of NuView-A and NuView-B in mid-2024, providing high-performance connectivity over North America and the Caribbean. The duet will deliver 50 gigabits per second of additional bandwidth for the company’s global mobility network. #Space #Satellite #Launch #MobileConnectivity #Connectivity #Bandwidth #HTS https://lnkd.in/eMfJDMcK

How Do Ionospheric Irregularities Affect GNSS Signals on Low-Earth Orbit Satellites? Rapid changes in the ionospheric plasma density (irregularities) can result in rapid fluctuations (scintillations) and disruptions in GNSS signals. While ground-based signals are primarily affected by the bulk of the ionosphere in the 250–350 km altitude range, what about signals received by satellites orbiting higher? ️These disruptions can impact the accuracy and reliability of GPS positioning for various applications, like satellite navigation and scientific research. In our recently published research, we analyzed data from the SWARM Echo (e-POP) satellite to investigate the spectral properties of both the ionospheric irregularities and the received GPS signals. Our findings reveal distinct spectral characteristics in signal intensities compared to those observed on the ground. Navigating the complexities of satellite communication? We've noticed some confusion about the best timing devices for different satellite orbits. Should you opt for a standard oscillator (OCXO), a GPS disciplined oscillator (GPSDO), or an atomic clock? The short answer: "it depends." Your choice should be based on your specific needs, limitations, and operational orbit. In our latest blog, we break down each operational orbit—LEO, MEO, and GEO—and the optimal timing devices for their satellites.
