🌟 Honouring #RareDiseaseDay, we invite you to watch our recent HTAi Webinar, hosted by HTAi Rare Diseases Interest Group 🌟 Evaluating the value of rare disease technologies poses challenges due to factors like poor natural history, small populations, limited data, complexity, and high unmet needs. Challenges vary across the spectrum of ultra-rare to more prevalent diseases, with added complexities in different populations, such as pediatrics. This webinar highlights these characteristics, elucidates their role in hindering evidence generation and value assessment, and discusses the resulting difficulties in obtaining approvals. Don't miss perspectives from: Elena Nicod – Director, Dolon Ltd | Italy Fleur Chandler – Head of Market Access UK and Ireland, Sanofi | UK Dan Ollendorf – Chief Scientific Officer, Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) | USA Karen Facey – Independent | UK Sheela Upadhyaya – Life Sciences Consultant | UK Gain invaluable insights into the assessment of rare disease treatments. ICYMI: Solve Responds to Findings From the NIH Intramural ME/CFS Clinical Study Published in "Nature" https://lnkd.in/gCmRvc-Y The long-awaited and costly study underscores the commitment of the NIH to understand ME/CFS, highlights that patients are often neglected or ignored, and researchers discovered that several patients were living with undiagnosed health issues. Multiple major news outlets tapped members of Solve’s extensive network of experts–including multiple scientists from Solve’s Ramsay Research Grant Program–for their response to the study, bringing much-needed visibility to ME/CFS. But we're concerned that the study: —Failed to adequately address post-exertional malaise (PEM). —Claimed that an outsized portion of the participants recovered spontaneously. —Does not account for remission periods for people with ME/CFS. —Used highly problematic and controversial language regarding “effort preference.” Read our response in its entirety here: https://lnkd.in/gCmRvc-Y

This new paper from the NIH RECOVER program delves into the impact of COVID-19 on kidney health in children and adolescents under 21 years old in the United States. - Study includes 864,637 children and young people divided into three groups: those with pre-existing chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI) during the initial COVID-19 infection, and those without prior kidney issues. The findings indicate that children and adolescents with COVID-19 face a higher risk of developing severe kidney problems later on, irrespective of any pre-existing kidney conditions. This research underscores the critical importance of preventing COVID infections and reinfections in children, emphasising the necessity of monitoring kidney function in paediatric COVID-19 patients. Furthermore, it reinforces the significance of accurate diagnosis, appropriate healthcare access, and the maintenance of medical codes on patient records, all crucial for ensuring optimal care pathways for children. Let's work towards addressing these crucial needs. Long Covid Kids is there to help.
