Ask Karla, the Home Economist Dear Karla, I’m trying to bake my Christmas cookies but my oven doesn’t seem to be working right. It takes longer than usual to preheat and my cookies take longer to bake. Do I need to buy a new oven? Chris the Christmas Cookie Creator Dear Chris, Maybe but try cleaning your oven first. The thermostat that regulates oven temperature gets covered in air borne grease during use and after a while effects how your oven operates. Even a light film of grease can make a big difference. Clean your oven using the self-clean (high heat) cycle. It’s easy and often does the trick. No self-clean cycle? Check your owner’s manual for the location of the thermostat and make sure to clean that area when cleaning your oven by hand. If you have to get a new oven, get one with a self-clean feature! It’s worth every penny!! Happy Baking, K #KarlaSeidita #AskKarlatheHomeEconomist #CheesecakeFarms More info in comments below

The cooling of bread is sometimes over-looked. When your freshly baked bread comes out of the oven, the baking process isn't quite finished. As it cools, the center continues to bake, with temperatures hovering around 95 to 99°C, just below boiling point, which tells us moisture is still present. During this cooling phase, the humidity turns into vapor, escaping through the crust. Consequently, your bread loses weight as vapor leaves. But what replaces it? Ambient air from the bakery fills the void left by the escaping vapor. Maintaining the air as clean as possible is likely a prudent choice for a compelling reason. 🍔 I am Stephane. FREE RECIPE. Honeycomb with all my tips and tricks to make perfect🤓 Recipe at the end of the video along with important steps TIPS & TRICKS 1. Do not stir. This can cause crystalization 2. Use an good quality accurate probe thermometer its worth the money, i use Matfer as this is giving an exact temperature, but do not rest on the bottom of the pan as this will give you pot temperatre, not the temperature of the mix, and laser thermometers will only get the heat / steam coming from the pot, not what is underneath 3. Control your heat as if it goes over 1 or 2c it will be overcooked and taste bitter, so when 140c reduces heat and watch it go up 1c at a time and don't move 4. Have your baking soda, whisk, and container ready by the stove as if you have to fetch when ready ITS BURNT 5. As soon as set and you feel it's Cool break or cut into desired serving pieces and store in small portions in zip locks is best as every time you open humidity, it will get sucked in unless you have silica gel 6. Enjoy or dip in tempered Valrhona Milk Chocolate for an even more heavenly experience 😋 #freerecipe #honeycomb #tipsandtricks #chefpaulhayward #consultancy

HR Specialist - supporting you to run your business; giving peace of mind and confidence and freeing up your time in dealing with people-related challenges. Helping you to get the business you actually want
Is there anything worse than something that's just at the "wrong" temperature? And by wrong I mean a temperature that you weren't expecting or don't like. My list of examples (all of which are based on my humble opinion): cold bread (I rarely buy a ready-made sandwich for this reason. The filling usually needs to be cold but the bread absolutely does not); fridge-cold tomatoes (omg all shades of wrong. Tomatoes should be room temperature); cold red wine (unless in sangria, in which case, bring it on!); room temperature water to drink (bleugh, I like my water ice cold thanks very much); cold toast (wrong, wrong, wrong); and of course the piece de resistance. A warm loo seat. Anyone else who's bothered about the temperature of things? #nuffsaid #warmlooseatthough #coldtomatoesaresowrong

Pour salt in your sink overnight to unclog the drain: Salt serves as an effective anti-clogging solution for your kitchen sink. To enhance its efficacy, blend half a cup of salt with one cup of baking soda. Allow it to sit for 4-6 hours, making it convenient to pour the mixture down the sink before bedtime. After letting it sit for several hours, or overnight, flush the sink with hot water to remove the mixture. Repeat as necessary.
