Absolutely relatable! It's that eternal struggle between strategic intentions and operational realities. As a CIO, it's natural to aspire towards shaping the broader vision, yet the immediate demands of keeping the systems running smoothly can often pull us back into the trenches. It speaks volumes about the dedication to ensuring excellence in operations, but also highlights the ongoing challenge in achieving a balance. It's a testament to the ever-evolving and dynamic nature of tech environments. Keep pushing forward, your dual focus is what ultimately drives progress and innovation!
I lie to myself. Every time I join a new company, I tell myself I will be in the trenches less to focus more on high level strategy. Then, I take one look at our systems. Why is everything always on fire? - a CIO 😂

With right expertise, good organizational culture and constructive work flow processes, organizational objectives is achievable. You can be busy but not productive. So many ceremonies and distructive processes that are detriment to head count optimization and business objectives. When I advise management, I document, the decision is on your table.

“IT’S NOT A JOB. IT’S A MANDATE.” We seem to be getting a growing number of recruiting inquiries from CEOs who don’t have a job description for the VP/CMO/GM they would like us to source on their behalves. (Yes, “behalves” is a word. I just looked it up.) Anyway, what’s unusual is that such CEOs come to our project kickoff call without a shred of sheepishness about this — as if they never had any intention of developing a job description. Rather, what they have is a mandate: “The new VP/CMO/GM should profitably grow the business by ___% by EOY 2026.” That’s it. “Grow the business.” Like telling a pilot, “Land the plane. I don’t care which buttons you push. Just land the plane in a way that minimizes wear and tear on everybody and everything.” 🟥 I’m not sure if this is the new normal. What are your thoughts? Have you seen this? 👍 to share!

You can get a sense of overhead in big organizations by all the job titles containing the words “couch” or “head of <something silly>”.

🌟 some character-building lessons from becoming a first-time Chief of Staff: 1. Anyone can learn anything, as long as you put your mind into practicing these lessons every single day. 2. The amount of tasks in one day can increase exponentially, if you aren't building processes to scale. 3. The sooner you embrace what you don't know, the better you can do your job. Stay curious and humble. I finally had the chance to think about and write down my journey to becoming a Chief of Staff at Zealy. Grateful for an incredible team that trusts and supports each other. Here's to continuous growth and new challenges! 💪 Link to the blog post in the comments ⬇️ P.S. We're hiring for a new Chief of Staff to co-build Zealy from 1 to N ✨ DM me if you'd like to learn more about the role!

Closing out the second week at Lattice and holy mother of pearl, I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this happy at work. Here are three reasons why: 1️⃣ The lack of ego + creation of space On more than one occasion, my boss / partner in pipeline Jessica Smith had invited me to “burn down” whatever exists that’s not in service to the development of our organization She’s also been a living embodiment of collaborative leadership — inviting me into conversations, programs and evaluations without needing me to “prove” or “earn” a seat at the table. 2️⃣ The collaboration + thought partnership cross functionally Rachel Sadacca has been thee GOAT! As my onboarding buddy and thought partner for what marketing & outbound pipeline development alignment needs to be, she’s invited me to normalize thinking critically about how we do things today while also inviting me to live out our value of “what’s next?”. Something seems off? Rachel encourages me to point that out. If I see a way of doing it better, she invites me to share that out. The exhange of ideas, the questioning the status quo, and inquiry into what “better” means and requires has been SO fulfilling. 3️⃣ The eagerness of the team to learn, grow and develop It’s rare to step into an organization as a new people manager and be welcomed with open minds by the folks I’ll be coaching and supporting. Feeling so welcomed has taken out the nervousness I’d otherwise feel. So thank you so much to Aaron, Javier, Rose, Stefan, Sophia, Torrie for making this transition to Lattice easier!! I know it’s early days here AND I gotta tell y’all…ya gurl is stoked to be here!! OH!! I know I said this list was three reasons but let’s do a fourth!! 4️⃣ This is a product I actually *enjoy* using and find SO much value from already as a people manager! The 1:1 interface is flexible AF, the ability to connect my individual and departmental goals to the objectives of the company, and not needing to use 4-5 different applications to do the admin part of my people management job makes life SO MUCH EASIER. Okay, that’s all. Buh bye. 💕

Certainly! Making career decisions can be both exciting and daunting. Whether you’re contemplating leaving a job, transitioning to a new role, or embarking on a different path, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully. As professionals, we often find ourselves at crossroads—facing the delicate balance between loyalty to our current roles and the pull of future possibilities. When you’ve been fortunate to lead an exceptional team and contribute to a game-changing project. Together, you’ve weathered challenges, celebrated victories, and poured our hearts into work. your bonds run deep, and the thought of leaving feels like parting with family. Yet, life nudges us toward growth. Leaving mid-project feels akin to leaving a symphony unfinished—a melody hanging in the air. Your team, like a well-rehearsed orchestra, harmonizes seamlessly. The prospect of disrupting that rhythm tugs at their hearts. As leaders, we must honor our commitments while nurturing our aspirations, but we need to take care of what and whom we are going to leave behind!
