An international team of patient, research and industry leaders have collaborated to propose the first iteration of a new research framework – the neuronal alpha-synuclein disease integrated staging system (NSD-ISS). The NSD-ISS, for the first time, stages Parkinson’s disease and defines it based on the disease’s underlying biology. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research says that, while this new staging tool is not yet intended for use in routine clinical care, it is expected to immediately impact research, speeding clinical trials and increasing scientific discovery. And ultimately, a treatment targeting the biology of the disease — rather than just its symptoms — is the path to a cure. Find out more about this new Parkinson's staging system: https://lnkd.in/g4EiBr6H #SolvingTheParkinsonsPuzzle #SlowStopCureParkinsons #ParkinsonsResearch #LivingWithParkinsons #ShakeItUpAustralia #Parkinsons

Excited to share that our new Review Article on heart rate regulation has been published today in @CirculationResearch. https://lnkd.in/dPgsaGAq Precise regulation of heart rate by the autonomic nervous system is a central element of cardiac physiology, and impairment of this mechanism can lead to development and progression of cardiovascular disease. In our review, we highlight the latest findings on heart rate regulation and the chronotropic response in health and disease. A multidisciplinary task force of 22 experts from eleven European scientific associations have joined forces to define recommendations for the effective and individualized use of biomarkers for the diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders and dementia syndromes in memory clinics. The consensus is published in The Lancet Neurology https://lnkd.in/dsVV8aUy An individualized diagnostic pathway, easy to use in memory clinics, was defined focusing on each individual case which enables the right tests to be identified according to the symptoms profile. After having examined the individual's complaints, a neuropsychological examination is performed and conducted with a brain MRI. On the base of these results the patient can be classified into one of the eleven defined phenotypes while looking for biomarkers such as lumbar puncture, amyloid PET, glucose PET, ioflupane SPECT, MIBG SPECT and tau PET.
A European multidisciplinary taskforce consisting of 22 experts from 11 European scientific societies recommends the first patient-centred diagnostic workflow that aims to prioritize testing for available biomarkers in individuals attending memory clinics - join us in thanking all contributors for this very helpful diagnostic workflow: Giovanni Frisoni, Cristina Festari, Federico Massa, Matteo Cotta Ramusino, Dag Aarsland, Federica Agosta, Claudio Babiloni, Barbara Borroni, Kristian Steen Frederiksen, Lutz Frölich, Valentina GARIBOTTO, Frank Jessen, Roy P.C. I am glad that Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets accepted our review on targets that extend mice's lifespan 🐀 ! We focused on identifying targets that enable achieving a lifespan of 1200 days+ in mice with detailed characterization of these targets in terms of possible indications and existing clinical trials. We hope, that this approach aims to facilitate faster translation from preclinical to clinical studies. #Research #MolecularTargets #Longevity #ClinicalTranslation #Biotechnology
🎉 Excited to share that our article has been accepted for publication in Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets!Taylor & Francis Group In this review of mouse lifespan intervention studies, we've shifted our perspective to analyze specific targets. As part of our criteria, we set a minimum lifespan of 1200 days for mice in our studies. At Longaevus, we prioritize the search for targets and conduct detailed research, paving the way for new aging therapies. Stay tuned for more updates on our innovative work in the field of longevity research! 🌱 #Longevity #AgingTherapies #Research #Innovation #ExpertOpinion https://lnkd.in/djKaN-Jb
