Giving, no matter how big or small, can create positive change. While the holiday season is a time to feel grateful for all we have, it’s also an opportunity to remember those who may not be as fortunate. Giving back is a beautiful way to spread love and kindness in your community. Here are a few ways to make a difference this season: ➊ Donate items to your local shelter. Take time to sort through your closets and donate clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, books, or essential items like shampoo and toothpaste. If it no longer sparks joy or serves a purpose, pass it along to someone in need. ➋ Donate unopened and unused toys to a local toy drive. Brighten a child’s holiday by donating unopened and unused toys to a local toy drive. ➌ Create a giving tree. A giving tree supports families in need while fostering community connection. Partner with a local shelter to identify families, write their needs on cards, and hang the cards on a tree in a shared space like an office, gym, library, or coffee shop. For more than six years, Today Cleaners in Bakersfield, CA, has partnered with Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to bring holiday cheer to families across Kern County. Through its Annual Toy Drive, the company collects new, unwrapped toys to ensure children in need have a brighter holiday season. They also donated $2,500 to support the initiative and extend their impact even further. What’s missing at Bridging? BLANKETS, especially the bed sized for twin, full, and queen beds. As client appointment levels rise, so does our need to adequately stock the shelves for shopping. We need 300 bed sized blankets available every week, for a total of 15,000 donated each year! When we say “blanket”, we mean comforters, bed spreads, and blankets. They cover a mattress completely, provide warmth, and support a good night’s sleep! Gently used and new donations are accepted. How can you help during the September Blanket Blitz? Continue to donate from your own home. Tell others in your network and neighborhood that we are in desperate need. Coordinate a blanket collection at work, school, or in your faith community. See Joel or Danyelle about hosting a blanket drive. Reminder: Yes, we accept throw sized blankets! But, we have a healthy supply of those and isn’t our greatest need.

Have you ever considered what it’s like to face the relentless Arizona sun without access to clean water? In Phoenix, dehydration isn't just a discomfort; it's a life-threatening issue, especially for our homeless population. Temperatures often soar above 100°F, and without adequate hydration, the risk of severe health complications skyrockets. It’s a silent crisis that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. We often take for granted the simple act of turning on a tap. For some, it’s a luxury they can’t afford. By raising awareness and taking action, we can help ensure that everyone has access to this basic necessity. The Sullivan employees have donated to bring this support to our community. Donating your shoes can help provide hope and an opportunity for a better life to those in need. So I need your help this holiday. Please rummage through your closets and find shoes to give. Place them in your neighborhoods to help those in need this Christmas.   Would you consider putting out a pair of shoes in your neighborhoods to help the homeless without any fees added? During this holiday, would your governments consider establishing committees to ensure "people without shoes" have the opportunity to get a pair for the holiday?   According to available data, an estimated 300 million people globally are unable to afford shoes, highlighting the significant need for shoe donation programs to those living in poverty; this figure is often cited by organizations like you when advocating for shoe donations. So globally we all do our part at giving to what matters most. Give to the soles of our world.
