Value Stream Analysis, “Going to the gemba,” applying "Pull" rather than "Push" practice, Lean and Six Sigma, 5S Tool for a better organized work environment, A3 Thinking for problem solving, Brainstorming solutions and Multi-voting, Cause-effect diagrams, Asking Why 5 Times for finding the root causes, Lean Kaizen event for cutting the "fat" and wastes, reducing variations with Six Sigma, and continuous improvement with Lean and Six Sigma! Eight categories of waste have been organized in English into the mnemonic TIM WOODS: • Transportation -- Moving materials or information unnecessarily. • Inventory -- Too much work in progress or patients waiting in line within a hospital. • Motion -- Unnecessarily moving, traveling, walking, and searching for something not easily accessible. • Waiting -- Inability to process work because people are waiting for other people, equipment, or information. • Over-processing -- Performing unnecessary processing steps that do not add value. • Over-production -- Producing more than is needed, or earlier than needed by the next process. • Defects – Defective output and rework because it was not done right the first time. • Skills under-utilization.
