Passionate about reshaping #STEM education? Check out this insightful quote from a report on an innovative gathering of STEM stakeholders by the AAAS with support from National Science Foundation (NSF). "...for the nation to grow and achieve its social and economic potential, it cannot allow any student with a commitment to STEM learning to be left behind." Cultures of "weed out" courses don't serve our future as a society. We help departments identify the culture resident in their programs and work alongside them to determine how their community would like to address needs that arise when learners aren't at the center of the process. The Biggest Barriers to STEM Education, According to Educator “In open-ended responses to a recent EdWeek Research Center #survey, #teachers and administrators said the lack of funding and the difficulty filling #STEM #teacher positions were the most common problems districts face when it comes to providing STEM education.” I both 100% agree and 100% disagree with the above statement. The first question I would ask each one of these teachers that took the survey? “Please provide your definition of STEM” Anyone reading this post want to post their definition? https://ow.ly/pWc250TzE2i #innovation #technology #K12 #education #career #workforce #training #professionaldevelopment

This 💯 “Educators cannot be expected to make the necessary changes to instruction on their own. They need high quality, ongoing professional learning opportunities related to equity in STEM. To enact instruction that advances equity in STEM requires understanding how to interweave pedagogy that supports the development of competencies in the concepts and practices of the disciplines with pedagogy that promotes learners’ agency, leverages their cultural and linguistic assets and centers their competence as sense-makers. There are research-based models for advancing this kind of instruction that can be leveraged to support educators as they reflect on and transform their own practice.” https://lnkd.in/gs2SjxV8 Equity in K-12 STEM Education NAP 2024

Your Swiss Army Knife for all things STEM Education -- Advisement, Board Development, Content Creation, Advocacy, Design, Partnerships, Communication jeffweldLLC.org
Much chatter these days about aligning what kids learn at school with what they'll need at work. Consider Mission Statements of two typical Midwest school districts: 1) "Educating each student to be a lifelong learner and and caring, responsible citizen" and 2) "All students will become responsible, independent learners capable of making informed decisions in a democratic society as well as in the dynamic global community" They sound great. But imagine squeezing "employable" in there! See the #4 in The Challenge and Promise of American STEM Education https://shorturl.at/pOX39 #TIES #STEMeducation #STEMcareers

The Institute of Education Sciences developed this beautiful Framework for Equitable Opportunities to Learn in STEM with a multitude of relevant research articles as reference points. Check it out! It can be helpful as you develop learning programs, try to enhance your programs, in applying for grants, and in advocacy efforts. While it doesn't explicitly mention afterschool or afterschool/informal educators, it definitely implies it and many of the research articles listed highlight afterschool, summer, out-of-school time, and other informal learning spaces and their associated educators. https://lnkd.in/ebUS2BDv

Award-Winning CEO, Victory Creative Learning | Microschool Builder | Education Equity & Diversity Advocate | STEM Education Specialist
🔍 Addressing the Critical Need for High-Quality Education for Underserved Children 🔍 As educators, we often find ourselves at a crossroads, channeling our frustrations and teaching superpowers into conforming to a broken system or creating educational ventures that prioritize inclusive, high-quality education for underserved learners. At Victory Creative Learning, we recognize this need and are committed to making a difference. When I founded Victory Creative Learning, my goal was deeply personal. As a single parent and teacher, I wanted to provide my children with academic enrichment that not only met but exceeded the standards necessary for future success. I realized that this vision needed to extend beyond my own family to the many underserved children who face significant educational inequities. STEM education stands as the vehicle for closing these equity and education gaps. By fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation, STEM prepares our children to navigate and excel in an increasingly complex world. We believe every child, regardless of background, deserves access to high-quality, culturally relevant education. This conviction drives our mission to provide inclusive, transformative learning experiences that empower students to achieve their full potential. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Let's continue to advocate for and create pathways that lead to brighter futures for all our students. Your insights and feedback are always welcome. Let's connect and continue this important conversation on how we can collectively work towards closing the education gap for underserved children. #EducationEquity #STEMEducation #InclusiveLearning #VictoryCreativeLearning #EducationalLeadership #EmpowermentThroughEducation #FutureReady
