Imagine the knowledge lost and the disconnections created. Today, First Nations communities are reclaiming their languages—preserving cultural heritage, identity and autonomy. Sharing stories in one’s mother tongue and other languages not only strengthens community bonds but also reflects Australia’s rich diversity. How are you encouraging multilingual storytelling into your programs for children? For more insights, listen to the full episode here:

Atlantic Books was the 2024 winner of the The British Academy Book Prize. It explores the global crisis of endangered languages by focusing on the extraordinary linguistic diversity of #NewYork City. It took too long but finally out Abstract: This study explores the Palula community's foraging heritage in Chitral, Pakistan, where Khowar language, serves as lingua franca. Our research suggests that the Palula foraging heritage may have been influenced by the cultural traditions of majority groups. We argue that preserving ecocultural diversity is crucial for maintaining the resilience of minority groups like the Palula. Policymakers must prioritize safeguarding traditional knowledge, cultural practices, and linguistic diversity to ensure the long-term sustainability of these communities. https://lnkd.in/djHJiPK5
