Prices for chartering container ships are sky-high. Yet shipping lines are already signing contracts for ships that will not be delivered until the end of the year or in 2025. So reports Alphaliner. Daily rates for a one-year charter of an 8,500 teu container ship stood at USD 67,000 per day on June 25. Two weeks ago, on June 11, rates for the same ship type were USD 58,000 per day. #shipping #containershipping #freight #oceanfreight #contracts #finance #business #globaltrade

Since last November, Hapag-Lloyd has announced it will no longer accept offline applications for bill of lading amendments. All applications for BL draft approvals have been shifted online, marking a major step forward in further digitizing its operations. With carriers increasingly adopting electronic means for processing bills of lading, what major benefits does eBL provide to shippers and forwarders compared to paper bills of lading? Paper bills of lading incur extra courier costs for both shippers and freight forwarders. If an unexpected issue arises during transit, causing a delay in the mailing of the bill of lading, any cargo left waiting at the port will also be subject to demurrage fees. IQAX's eBL solution transforms carriers' traditional way of issuing bills of lading into an online platform. Shippers and freight forwarders who adopt the IQAX eBL Platform no longer need to allocate resources to obtaining physical bills of lading or bear the costs associated with mailing them. More importantly, they are spared worries about shipping delays of these documents and avoid demurrage fees. This truly enables a zero-cost circulation of bills of lading. To date, more than 14,000 companies have registered within the IQAX eBL Platform across over 70 countries and regions globally. Since January 2023, the platform processed over 240,000 original bills of lading from carriers. Please visit our official website to find out more about the IQAX eBL Platform. #IQAXeBL #billsoflading #digitaltransformation #shippinglogistics

The deployment of digital ‘single windows’ in ports has the potential to bring considerable improvements to shipper and forwarder port-related operations, and vastly reduce the number of unfair or contested container-related charges levied by shipping lines.

Shipping Terms You Need to Know 1-COD – Change of Destination Your goods have been loaded and on their way to their destination, but for some reason the destination needs to be changed. This is the time to request a COD, This request asks the container ship to discharge your container so it can be transported to a location different from the original booking. 2-CYCY – Container Yard to Container Yard A container yard is where containers are stored until they’re loaded on a ship or after they’ve been discharged from a ship. The CYCY explains where the responsibility of the carrier begins and ends. 3-Stuffing & Stripping This is probably the most straight forward term in the list. Stuffing is the process of loading a container prior to shipment. Stripping, is, you guessed it, the process of unloading a container the it arrives at a port. 4- Rollover – Container Wasn’t Loaded on the Ship This means your container didn’t make it onto the vessel. This could happen due to customs problems, overbooking, or vessel omissions , Your shipment will be rescheduled and be placed on the next departing ship. We hope you’ve found this list useful. #Logistics #Shippingterm #Sea #Egypt #freightforwarder

Ports & Logistics I Supply Chain | Growth Strategy| Market Development | Asset Commercialisation | Stakeholder Management | Project Structuring | Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
Additional deployment of capacity by liners atleast keeps away the chatter around them deliberately parking away capacity to generate revenues (COVID recollection). However, additional vessel capacity is unlikely to solve the port congestion issue; which indeed is the bigger problem at hand. Absolutely no doubt that countries like Egypt have accelerated their capacity addition plans with ports like Dekhelia and Alexandria coming online with additional berths and storage; however switching costs will play a part. On the other hand it will be interesting to see the surcharges that terminal operators are levying to manage traffic. Terminal operating business by lines may see a good boost this year because the next four months are technically the ‘peak season’. After all synergies are always beneficial. #shippinglines #terminaloperations #maritime #disruptions #internationaltrade
COSCO SHIPPING Europe and CMA CGM expect further pressure on major European ports and deploy different measures in response. Cosco is warning its customers about congestion at major German, Dutch and Belgian ports, introducing a fee of EUR 50 per container. CMA CGM has decided to deploy extra capacity on the major routes from China to Europe during the summer months. #shipping #containershipping #oceanfreight #freight #logistics #business #globaltrade
