At dymaptic, we believe it’s possible to build a strong company culture with a fully remote team. We’ve done this by hiring highly-skilled, highly-motivated team members, and making sure people have the tools and resources to succeed. Regardless of time zone, we strive to make sure everyone is working towards the same end goals, and no one is left wondering what to do. And yet – we also love when we get the opportunity to connect in person! Here’s more from our GIS team’s retreat in the Smoky Mountains last week. GIS Developer Ed Conrad perfectly sums up how this team-building experience will carry over to “regular” job duties: “We went white-water rafting on the Pigeon River starting at the Tennessee-North Carolina border on a stormy, rainy day when water levels were much higher than they’d been in the past 3 months. Our guide had a palatable sense of glee seeing the high-water levels and the high speed at which the water was traveling. He instructed us on safety and that we would need to paddle in sync to safely navigate rapids and avoid rocks. As we traveled down the river, he’d tell us about the upcoming rapids. The notable rapids were given names such as Lost Guide, Double Accelerator, and Tombstone. It might have been while steering through and over Double Accelerator when our guide told us that he couldn’t see over it, and it hadn’t ever looked that way before. The uncertainty heightened our concentration, as well as our excitement, and we locked in our feet and safely paddled through without anyone go overboard. Back on dry land at our computers, we routinely face and solve complex problems. Uncertainty invariably crops up, but we are adept and appreciate the challenges while problem-solving.” #remoteworklife #GIS #EsriPartner #havelaptopwilltravel

ArcGIS Enterprise specialist and founder of geoworx, focussing on Health, Security, Performance, Maintenance and Upgrades. Owner/Operator of a boutique B&B in Ohakune. Sorry, not looking to hire or be hired.
Quality Location Upgrades: This morning, I sent an email to clients advising of some changes occurring at geoworx over the next few weeks. Many will know that I have tried to grow geoworx. Each time the over-riding message to me is that while recruits want to learn the deep/dark stuff that I do, they also still want to make 'maps'. I get it, and sometimes I want to do maps as well. However, there are really good providers in the market for those services, and it's not a space that geoworx needs to tread. The energy, passion and cost of onboarding staff, only to be told six months later that "I need to go" is verging on soul destroying. I am passionate about delivering quality experiences and deliverables to my clients. Recruitment is a distraction that I believe is holding me back from delivering the level of quality I need to offer. Therefore, geoworx is now a sole trader again and will remain that way. I am open to partnership arrangements within geoworx, but I will not be recruiting again without the support of like-minded individuals who are prepared to co-own geoworx and carry some of the load. This extends the idea of geoworx being a 'practice' rather than a business, and it's something I aspire to. In terms of location, geoworx (and my family) are moving away from Wellington, and we will be relocating to the Ruapehu district. We are currently in the process of purchasing a "home with income". This is something we're really excited about as it allows us to share our passion for geoworx with our passion for the community and the outdoor activities associated with the area. All of this, as far as I'm concerned, is an upgrade to Scott and geoworx. I believe that even better things are to come and that the renewed focus and vigour will continue to deliver good things for geoworx clients. On the subject of upgrades, ArcGIS Pro 3.3 was released yesterday, and this normally highlights that ArcGIS Enterprise (11.3) is not far away. Esri community page evidence suggests a release at the end of May, but I know that it is only released when the ArcGIS Enterprise product team say it's ready - so don't hold me to that... I am currently looking at bookings for client upgrades from 15th July, but in saying that there are a mix of confirmed and tentative bookings through to September, so it's a case of first come first served. Remember, that 11.3 is the part of your key transition from Web AppBuilder to Experience Builder. With the retirement of JavaScript 3.x libraries, this is a key technical strategy for you to follow over the next couple of years to maintain security and reliability. I am really excited about the next six months, there are good things happening with new and existing clients, and of course - there's a North Island ski season coming up. If you can, then support a Ruapehu Ski field... As always, please reach out if there is anything here that you'd like to discuss.

GIS Managers often grapple with challenges around capability and capacity, resulting in overloaded teams. So, what are your options? 1. Training and Development: Upskill your team to bridge the gap. 2. Introduce new systems: This often involves lengthy scoping, budgeting and tender processes. 3. Outsourcing/Managed Services: Flexible access to experienced GIS staff. 4. Hiring: Not always the quickest or the best option Each strategy has strengths; the key is finding the right mix. Esri Australia can add both firepower and additional security. Visit: https://bit.ly/3TFvgX4 🌐 #GISManagement #BusinessChallenges

Geoscientist | Leader | Software Product Champion | Wannabe | Volunteer | Energetic and Honest | Team Cheerleader 😃
Last week Geoactive Limited started a new series of "Tips & Tricks Tuesday" videos, where we will be sharing a little snippet of info around each of our products. The first post was about generating spectral filled ties between your wells in a correlation within IC. It's a great visual when presenting your findings and helps highlight any lateral as well as vertical variations in your zones from well to well. What I like the best is that each zone can use a different curve or colour gradient if you want. The flexibility allowing your to make the most of your displays. Do you have any tips for working with IC?? #geology #subsurfaceinterpretation #TipsTricksTuesday #InteractiveCorrelations
