⭐ Employee Spotlight: Meet Sylvia Nentwick Sylvia Nentwick’s journey started 6 years ago when she joined the LeadVenture team as a Technical Support Representative. From the beginning, Sylvia focused on developing her communication skills by supporting her team through training, problem solving, and being a resource for others. “I look forward to supporting and helping my team members. There’s always something different happening, some new quirk in the software that we’ve discovered that needs to be worked through. I like finding trends in those quirks and trying to find solutions.” Her determination led her to the next step in her journey with the creation of a new position just for her - the Team Support Specialist. She established the role blueprint, making it a vital part of Customer Support, to the point where the role has expanded to six people today. In fact, Sylvia is no stranger to building things from the ground up. A project she looks back at fondly is her involvement in opening a new office location. “It was a little hectic at first – we had to find and secure housing sight-unseen in a city we’d never been to before, our phone system was not fully operational, and we literally had to use burner phones for a short time. Despite that, moving with 10 of my coworkers and friends across the country to this new city was really exciting and I’m glad I did it.” Consistently seeking growth opportunities, nurturing her leadership skills, and rolling with changes has led Sylvia to where she is today as Assistant Manager of Customer Support for the Frazer brand. This is a new experience for Sylvia as she has never been in a management position before, but a challenge she’s ready to step into for the long haul. “Since I’m relatively new to being a manager I’d like to explore that more and see more projects to help our front lines feel more supported and comfortable in their positions.” If you are a new LeadVenturer - listen up! Connecting the Dots… That was our Summer Offsite theme this year. 🤩 At awork, we have many great things going for us, as well as some challenges and opportunities ahead. Realizing what those are, where we want to go, and how we can best utilize our team’s strengths to unlock the next level of growth is what we spent the last week on. We kicked off with a keynote by Tobi that provided a high-level overview of these dots and the strategic direction. We then had Frederik Fleck join us remotely to share his invaluable insights into the startup funding situation from an investor perspective. Bernadette Hamann and Marvin Müller from OMR Reviews made their way up from Hamburg to talk about their perspective on the SaaS market and how companies are purchasing software at the moment. Julia Glöckner and Lucas Bauche shared strategic updates on a more focused customer profile as well as some ideas for what awork could look like in the future. After all these input sessions, it was finally time for the team to connect the dots. We set out and defined the projects we need to work on next quarter to reach the goals we’ve set for ourselves. We put up boards with the big topics we need to work on, then gave the team time to add ideas, questions, and thoughts to every project. In smaller groups, we then evaluated and prioritized all the ideas on the boards, worked on more concrete project plans for the next three months, and presented them to the rest of the team. What really impressed me: 👉 The number and level of questions from the team to our external speakers. 👉 The participation and motivation of every team member throughout those intense days. 👉 How well the agenda worked out, from high-level strategy to concrete projects, with everyone being involved in every step. 👉 How smoothly and hassle-free we managed to pull everything off. Therefore, I wanted to give big kudos to the entire team. 😍 Our offsites are a big part of our culture, and at the same time, they only work out so well because of this awesome culture we’re creating together. What types of offsites are out there?! Recently, we've been developing regular in-person meeting plans for remote companies that recognize the value of bringing their teams together. Here’s what these usually include: 👉 Company offsites – The entire company gathers for 2-5 days of strategy sessions, team building, and plenty of fun and connections. The cadence varies between companies, typically ranging from one to four times a year. 👉 Town halls – A great way to integrate new hires and create strategic alignment. These happen anywhere from once a month to once a quarter. 👉 Executive team offsites – These are often prioritized, and it's easier to show the ROI, as executive teams need to build cohesion. Exec teams usually meet more frequently than the rest of the company, often from every few weeks to once a quarter. 👉 Team offsites – This depends on the team leads and budget, but it’s growing. We’re seeing more engineering, product, and sales teams meet to build roadmaps, discuss strategy, and tackle challenges. The cadence is often ad hoc, but the trend is increasing. These are the main types of offsites, and my bet is that team offsites will grow significantly in the next few years. If you want to build your own plan – talk to us!

Taking a career break is tough for someone who’s never stopped working since graduation – 2 decades ago (Spoiler: This isn’t a mid-life crisis post, I promise). However, I’m grateful that I did, for the time to fully recharge and reassess my priorities. After a much-needed period of self-discovery, having fun, new lessons, and invaluable advice from mentors, I'm excited to be embarking on a new chapter of my career. Over the years, I've been fortunate to have gained experience across various industries and in diverse roles, honing skills particularly in strategic leadership, business development & change transformation. The last 4 years has been a career highlight, working in the fintech space in CxO capacity across Southeast Asia and Australia. I love meeting people, I am naturally curious and I love exchanging insights on industry trends and new ideas. That's why, very often what started off as casual coffee catch-ups would turn into advisory on pro bono basis for some friends and business acquaintances because I couldn't stop asking questions or figuring out their problems. Now is the time to bring a solution into a market where my experience is valued but firms face constraints around hiring budget and couldn’t afford commitment for a full-time senior hire. Introducing AVENLIT – a strategic advisory practice focused on helping senior execs and founders of scale-ups and SMEs navigate business challenges and pursue opportunities for growth. While starting my own practice might not have been an obvious step, it feels right to give this a shot right now. I welcome the challenges and uncertainties ahead. So far, a few months in, I'm having a good time! A big thank you to everyone who’s supported me along the way, and special thanks to Portfolio Careers in Asia for introducing me to the fractional leadership community. Their support gave me the confidence to take the leap. The best encouragement, though, came from my 8-year-old daughter: "Mommy, I’m happy for you. Now that you have your own company, does that mean, when you die, Avenlit will be mine?
