This International Day of Rural Women, Soorty Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. celebrates women like Shamim, a resilient farmer from the Soorty Regenagri Initiative, who embodies strength and perseverance. Shamim not only manages her farm independently but also ensures her children receive an education while contributing to the growth of her community. This year's International Rural Women's Day theme celebrates women as key drivers of sustainability, climate resilience, and community development. Shamim’s journey highlights the critical role rural women play and proves that when women thrive, communities thrive. Shamim balances her role as a mother and farmer, working independently to cultivate cotton, lentils, barley, and vegetables while also caring for her children. With Soorty’s support, she is improving her farming practices whilst providing for her family. "Those who say women can’t work are wrong," she says proudly, as she challenges societal norms and invests in her children’s education. In rural areas, practical steps like providing market access or equipment are important, but true, lasting change will only come when women can make independent decisions, without being constrained by traditional gender roles or societal expectations. Shamim's experience is a powerful reminder to rethink how we empower women in rural communities. 🌍 Kenyan Women Leading the Way in Sustainability Kenyan women are creating meaningful change in addressing climate challenges: - Wanjira Mathai launched a $17.8M project to restore degraded lands and create thousands of green jobs. - Women in Mwazaro are farming seaweed, building sustainable livelihoods in the face of climate adversity. - The BOMA Project is helping women in arid areas build businesses and thrive in challenging environments. - In Northern Kenya, women are championing climate justice, focusing on local solutions to environmental challenges. - Nairobi’s Inua Damsite initiative turns food waste into opportunity, supporting small-scale women farmers. To further amplify these efforts, YOUTH IN STEM NETWORK KENYA has introduced the Green Women Accelerator, a program dedicated to empowering women to lead sustainable solutions across Kenya, Africa and the World. This initiative offers hands-on training, mentorship, and access to resources to foster eco-innovation. It encourages women to start green enterprises, embrace circular economy practices, and implement impactful solutions to climate-related issues. By providing a platform for networking and collaboration, the accelerator ensures women’s voices are central to shaping a greener and fairer future. Accelerating sustainable development incorporates empowering women farmers !! African women are not only the ones who are destined to carry out backbreaking house chores and are accountable to look after their children and the entire families. They are also the ones who bear the responsibility of taking care of the economy of their family. Women`s role in supporting the economy of their family goes beyond fetching water, cooking food, or undertaking any other household chores. They also directly engage in farming activities and contribute significantly to food production and the agricultural sector`s growth. However, despite this effort, they are not seen benefiting from the fruits of their hands. In most cases, women in agriculture, compared to their counterparts, are vulnerable to poverty and have limited access to resources and opportunities. To this end, empowering them through training and improving access to market and financial services are suggested by experts to help lift them out of poverty and create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.

#𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 🌱 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 🌾🌳 In many African countries, agriculture is the backbone of the economy, yet women, who make up a substantial portion of the agricultural workforce, often face significant barriers in accessing resources, training, and markets. Supporting women-led agricultural projects is not just a matter of equity; it's a strategic investment in the future, addressing multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) simultaneously. 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟖): Women reinvest up to 90% of their income back into their families and communities, compared to 30-40% for men. Empowering women farmers can stimulate local economies, create jobs, and reduce poverty. 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟐): Women are responsible for 60-80% of food production in developing countries. By providing them with the necessary tools and support, we can significantly increase food production, improve nutrition, and combat hunger. 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟓): Ensuring women have equal access to resources, education, and decision-making processes promotes gender equality and empowers all women and girls. 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟑): When women have economic stability, they can afford better healthcare for themselves and their families, leading to improved health outcomes and well-being. 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟒): Economic empowerment of women leads to better educational opportunities for their children, fostering a cycle of education and empowerment. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟐): Women are often at the forefront of innovative and sustainable farming practices. Their traditional knowledge and resourcefulness are crucial for adapting to climate change and preserving biodiversity. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐃𝐆 𝟏𝟑): Empowering women in agriculture supports climate-resilient farming practices, which are essential for sustainable development in the face of climate change. It’s time for policymakers, investors, and development organizations to prioritize the inclusion and support of women in agriculture. By doing so, we can unlock the full potential of Africa’s agricultural sector and pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for all. Let’s champion the cause of women in agriculture and ensure they have the resources they need to thrive. Together, we can create lasting change. 🌍 #WomenInAgriculture #SustainableDevelopment #Empowerment #Agriculture #Africa #EconomicGrowth #FoodSecurity #GenderEquality #ClimateAction

🌾 Happy International Day of Rural Women 🌍 Growing up in a remote village in a farming family, I witnessed from a young age the important role that rural women play in their families and communities. My mother, and grandmothers, were often in the fields working alongside their husbands to provide for us. Their contributions went beyond the farm, they made sure our family had what we needed to thrive. Across the Global South, rural women play a similar vital role in agriculture. They are often the ones planting, harvesting, and managing the day-to-day tasks that keep farms running. Yet, their efforts often go unnoticed and too often unsupported. Despite facing challenges like limited access to resources, training, and markets, they continue to adapt, innovate, and build stronger communities. On this International Day of Rural Women, it’s important to recognise the essential role these women play in feeding the world and building more sustainable agricultural systems. At CABI, we prioritise gender and social inclusion in our projects, ensuring that rural women, alongside youth and marginalised groups, are fully supported and benefit equitably. By investing in rural women, we help build stronger families, healthier communities, and a more resilient future for everyone. #InternationalDayOfRuralWomen #RuralWomen #EmpowerWomen #GlobalSouth #Sustainability #CABI

🌍 Today we celebrate International Day of Rural Women — a day to honor the strength, resilience, and contributions of women who live and work in rural communities around the world. As women in the rural sector, we've seen firsthand how women drive sustainable change in agriculture, local economies, and environmental stewardship. Women in rural areas are often the backbone of these communities, ensuring food security, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering biodiversity. We're constantly inspired by the vital role rural women play, not just in farming but also in shaping a more sustainable future. Empowering them with resources, education, and opportunities isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s essential for global development. We are proud to see organizations like the Tourist Board of the Republic of Srpska and Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Srpska making a real difference. Their commitment to supporting rural women ensures that female voices are uplifted, empowering them to lead sustainable practices and drive local economic development. We are proud to be a part of the #SMARTERAeu, EU-funded project which aims to empower rural communities for a sustainable transition and foster cooperation across European regions by implementing smart solutions through Smart Innovation Packages, co-created with local communities. Today, let’s recognize their invaluable work and advocate for more support, investment, and recognition for women in rural areas everywhere. I have worked and interacted with women in different agri value chains for years, and one thing has always stood out: their resilience, creativity, and the ability to overcome challenges in a sector that remains largely male-dominated. I have noted, however, that women continue to face structural barriers such as limited access to markets, financial resources, and the right networks to scale their businesses. As part of supporting women #agripreneurs to overcome these barriers, Impact Africa Consulting Limited in partnership with AGRA is implementing the #VALUE4HER initiative. VALUE4HER is designed to connect women-led agribusinesses to tailored capacity-building programs, market opportunities, financial linkages, and mentorship. To onboard, one needs to sign up via https://lnkd.in/dn2Z7fhS. Feel free to share this opportunity with your networks. #WomenInAgribusiness #EmpoweringWomen #InclusiveGrowth #SustainableFutures John Macharia, Jacqueline Chepkoech, Erastus Makena, Patrick Githinji, Juliana Wanjiru -(MBA) SDG Pioneer Winner Kenya, Dr. Edward Mungai, Women in Agriculture for Sustainable Development, Women in Food and Agriculture
