"I wish transfer fees were more affordable because how do you encourage people to use their e-wallets if its expensive?" Former Department of Tourism Secretary and now Deputy Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Berna Romulo-Puyat chats with us on the first edition of our EmpowHER: HERStory series while taking us through her office at the BSP. Find out how she's making sure digital payments more accessible for every Filipino, why visiting her office may be better than a trip to the National Museum, and which BTS member has a massive cutout by her desk. Also, what is etag? At Enstack, we provide the tools to enable anyone to become an entrepreneur. As such, merchants can transact and ship orders all through the app. There are also no marketplace fees for Enstack merchants. https://lnkd.in/gd_sb-TS #EmpowHER #EnstackPH

Founder - Radically Yours (connecting funds & businesses with global investors) | Building one of world’s first podcast on global businesswomen | UN Foundation Fellow | LinkedIn Top Voice | TEDx speaker
How did this woman become India’s first female fintech founder to build a Rs 8000 cr+ company? From starting as a recharge website to building a billion dollar company, here’s the story of Upasana Taku, co-founder & COO of MobiKwik, who I interview on my podcast show at Radically Yours. ➡️ From bootstrapping the company for 4.5 years to becoming a unicorn: It all started in 2009 as a website for mobile recharges and bill payments as they saw an opportunity to simplify digital payments in India. ▶️ Early days: In the first 6 months, most of the initial team members lost interest, but Bipin who envisioned the initial concept of Mobikwik (also Upasana’s husband now) persevered! Upasana joined him full-time after realizing the idea’s potential and they together built MobiKwik! ▶️ How did the idea reach right customers: They marketed on internet forums, optimized for search engines, and partnered with local stores to offer bill payment services. ▶️ The turning point: After obtaining an RBI prepaid wallet license in 2013, MobiKwik expanded into e-commerce payments. This allowed them to partner with major platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and MakeMyTrip, significantly boosting their user base and transaction volumes. ▶️ All that glitters aren’t gold: a challenging phase at MobiKwik: In 2015-2016, the company was about to run out of money within 5-6 months as 2 investors backed out at the last minute. What helped them survive was debt financing with banks and they eventually did a Series C round. ▶️ Profitable until 2013 - what happened then? Founders chose growth over profitability in 2014 with the path to profitability which they eventually got back to in FY24, exactly 10 years later!! ✔️Today Mobikwik has over 150 million users, with 5 million actively using their credit product MobiKwik Zip. And they are now planning for IPO! ✔️In terms of the gender diversity at MobiKwik, 40% are women, with 25% representation at the leadership level. 🎙️In my conversation with Upasana, we explored all these aspects of her journey in depth. Watch the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/dZWNd-SC What’s the future of UPI in India? Thoughts?

From regulatory frameworks, to intercontinental trade agreements, and other policies, there’s already enough confusion in the continent. Startups need to be clear on the problem they’re solving. And even more clear on how users can access the solution (straightforward experience). I like how Olugbenga Agboola puts it - building straightforward products with a clear purpose! This, in my opinion should be the ultimate goal of any technology business that wants to succeed in Africa. Always proud of the work that Flutterwave is doing!
Excited to share our journey and the next chapter for Flutterwave in 2024. 🚀 Over the years, our path has been nothing short of remarkable. We've ventured into new territories, broadened our client base, rolled out innovative products, forged significant partnerships, bolstered our team, and secured new licenses. 2023 taught us invaluable lessons that have sharpened our focus for 2024, particularly the importance of creating straightforward products with a clear purpose. Digging into our core mission and DNA, we've recognized an unparalleled opportunity not only in enabling large enterprises to expand into Africa but also in empowering African corporates to grow and scale on our platform. The key to this double-edged sword of growth is our omnichannel payment platform, which offers access to over 30 markets via a single API, making expansions seamless and efficient. The potential for technology transfer, job creation, and cross-market accessibility is boundless, opening up a world of possibilities! In 2024, our strategy is deeply anchored in serving the enterprise segment across our key markets. With over 500 million young, digitally savvy Africans with increasing spending power, it's imperative that we continue to empower African economies and their people to thrive in the digital era. We are utilizing our robust infrastructure, strategic partnerships, and insights from building Africa’s largest unicorn to ensure smooth transactions for both global and African enterprise merchants. Moreover, we're committed to enhancing our retail solutions, like SendApp, to be the ultimate platform connecting Africans in the diaspora with the continent. Dive into our vision for 2024 and join us on this exciting journey: https://lnkd.in/eBiww3gn Let’s shape the future together!
