Building Together: The Symbiotic Relationship Between Interior Design and Construction. Interior design and construction are two sides of the same coin—each essential, and neither truly complete without the other. The value that interior design brings to the construction industry is undeniable, but it’s equally important to acknowledge that this value is realised through collaboration, where one doesn't exist without the other. From the initial planning stages, interior designers work hand-in-hand with construction teams to ensure that spaces are not just built, but thoughtfully crafted to serve their intended purpose. This partnership ensures that every element—from structural details to aesthetic finishes—works in harmony, creating environments that are both functional and inspiring. While construction lays the foundation and brings the vision to life, interior design adds the layers that make a space feel complete and livable. Together, they create spaces that not only stand the test of time but also enrich the lives of those who use them. In the end, it’s not about whether construction or design is more important—it’s about recognising that their true value lies in their ability to complement and elevate each other. The Structure, The Fixtures, and The Soul: In every project, I break down the design and build process into three core components: the structure (the "bone"), the fixtures (the "muscle"), and the interior design (the "soul"). The structure is the foundation-it it's not done right from the start, the entire project is at risk. This is why we work closely with our in-house construction team, Bebel Construction, to ensure the structural integrity of every build. The fixtures, such as bespoke joinery, kitchens, and bathrooms, are the elements that add functionality and aesthetic appeal to the space. While these can be updated over time, it's crucial to get them right initially to ensure they meet the client's needs for at least the next 15 to 20 years. Finally, the interior design-the soul of the project— brings everything together. This includes the colours, furnishings, and finishes that make a house feel like a home. These are often the most flexible elements, allowing for updates and changes as trends evolve or as the client's tastes change. So, your home is coming to life—floor plans are taking shape, and we’re fine-tuning the exterior. When should our interiors team step in? Here are 3 reasons why starting the interior design process before finalizing construction drawings is key: 1. Ensure Cohesion – Early coordination between interior and architectural design means every element of the interior aligns with the overall building vision, creating a unified, intentional look. 2. Seamless Integration – Interior design brings a different level of detail, allowing us to carefully consider elements like custom millwork, lighting, and shower niche sizing, to name a few. We then make any necessary adjustments to the drawings to ensure the design is properly coordinated. 3. Budget Efficiency – Bringing a designer in early helps identify cost-effective solutions upfront when selecting materials, fixtures and finishes. With Space&Mark’s full-service design approach, your home’s interior and exterior evolve together, resulting in a harmonious, thoughtfully designed, and beautifully functional home. Deciding whether to invest in an interior designer can be a tough choice for potential clients. The temptation is to save the money and have more to spend on the finishes. Homes and business premises costs a huge amount, it is probably the biggest investment you will make! Does it not makes sense to make the absolute most out of this investment? It is common for renovations to have architects and engineers as part of the design team, but not so common to have an interior designer. The internal space planning, interior design selections, finishes and all the hundreds of design details are what makes that building special. It is what you touch, see and experience everyday. We are design experts, we have access to hundreds of trade only resources and we are excellent project coordinators. Make the right decision and invest in a good interior designer. #interiordesigner #londoninteriors #londonpropertydevelopment #surreyhomes #surreyrenovation #surreymums #cobham #guildford #weybridge #esher #surreyinteriors

The Value of Interior Design in Residential Construction A pivotal study that underscores the importance of URITECT's mission is “Designing Single-Family Residences: A Study of the Positive Impact of Interior Design in Creating New Home Value” by Shawn M. Falcone, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln This comprehensive thesis delves into the quantifiable impact that professional interior design has on the market value of single-family homes. By examining twelve homes in Nebraska—half of which utilized interior designers for space planning and finish selections and half which did not—the study revealed that homes with professional design input boasted an average increase in price per finished square foot of $54.67 compared to those without. This significant finding not only quantifies the value added through design but also positions interior design as a critical component in the construction and marketing of new homes. Furthermore, Falcone’s research meticulously outlines the evolving role of interior designers, transitioning from mere decorators to essential stakeholders in the construction process. This evolution mirrors URITECT’s vision of transforming the traditional approach to architectural and interior design through AI, emphasizing the profession’s significance in improving living standards and property value. https://lnkd.in/ed2iKwXy
