AHP firmly supports the inclusion of peers in mental health treatment and recovery. We also have several peer support experts on our team. In reality, we can’t achieve health equity without centering the needs of those most impacted. Let’s ask people what they need from health care and revamp the system to meet their needs! #PeersSpeakOut https://bit.ly/46M2A2D

A mental health or addiction-related crisis can look very different from person to person. And an individual doesn’t experience the same type of/intensity of crisis each time, either. A huge challenge in the addiction and mental health space is the limited number of pathways for patients – especially those who are experiencing a crisis. These pathways – most often, the ER or an arrest – tend to be focused much more on removing a person from a given situation and on the person’s safety, rather than on addressing a person’s unique set of needs in the moment. This isn’t finger-pointing. But it is a spotlight on a significant gap that exists. What the Alliance is set up to do is to offer care options that are much more tailored to a person’s specific needs. Our care partners are in place to help Halton residents with acute situations that arise; with housing support; with employment support and training; with therapy; and with peer support for people dealing with the health challenges themselves, as well as families and caregivers. Standard of care. For crises that are not standard. #communitymentalhealth #mentalhealth #substanceuse #ontariohealth #heathcarepathways
