Back to School‼️ As summer winds down, it's time to gear up for another school year. Whether you're a student, parent, or educator, these tips will help ensure a smooth transition and set the stage for success. 1. Establish routines early Start adjusting sleep schedules a week or two before school starts. Set consistent times for waking up, meals, homework, and bedtime to ease into the school rhythm. 2. Get organized Purchase necessary supplies and organize study spaces. A clutter-free environment promotes focus and productivity. 3. Set goals Encourage students to set academic and personal goals for the year. This provides motivation and a sense of purpose. 4. Address anxieties Many students feel nervous about returning to school. Open conversations about concerns can help alleviate stress. 5. Plan healthy meals Nutrition plays a crucial role in learning. Plan balanced meals and snacks to fuel bodies and minds throughout the day. 6. Limit screen time Gradually reduce summer screen time and establish rules for device usage during the school year. 7. Get involved Look into extracurricular activities or volunteer opportunities. These can enhance learning, build social skills, and boost college applications. 8. Communicate with teachers Establish open lines of communication with educators early on. This partnership is vital for student success. 9. Embrace a positive mindset Approach the new year with enthusiasm and curiosity. A positive attitude can significantly impact learning outcomes. 10. Practice self-care Remember to balance academics with relaxation and fun. Maintaining good mental health is crucial for overall success. By implementing these strategies, students, parents, and educators can lay the groundwork for a productive and enjoyable school year. 6 months ago, I embarked on a mission to make a lasting impact in the lives of special needs families. With a clear vision but uncertain path, I dove in headfirst, determined to create change where it mattered most. I was fueled by a passion to serve, yet faced with the challenge of navigating a niche landscape. But where there's a will, there's a way. I began by immersing myself in the community, listening intently to their needs, challenges, and dreams. It was a humbling experience, shedding light on the gaps that needed filling and the barriers that needed breaking. Armed with empathy and insight, I set out to build bridges where there were once gaps. From advocating for policy changes to providing hands-on support, every action was a step towards a brighter future for special needs families. But it wasn't a solo journey. Along the way, I found allies in unexpected places - fellow advocates, compassionate professionals, and kindred spirits united in a common cause. And then, the breakthrough came. Through strategic partnerships and unwavering dedication, we began to see tangible results. From improved access to resources to greater community inclusion, the impact was undeniable. Now, as I reflect on the past 6 months, I'm filled with gratitude for the journey and optimism for the road ahead. While the path may have been challenging, the rewards have been immeasurable. To anyone dreaming of making a difference, I say this: seize the opportunity, embrace the challenge, and let your passion be your guide. With determination and compassion, anything is possible. Here's to achieving lasting impact, one step at a time. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been asking myself: Can it be done differently? Are there alternative approaches? This curiosity stems from a deep wonder about human behavior on Earth, about how we interact with each other and with all living things. After completing my studies, I joined Frisse Blikken to support large organizations explore that one key question: “How can we do things differently from what we’re used to?” Nearly 10 years later, in 2022, I founded a primary school: BEING THE SCHOOL, driven by the belief that education can be a catalyst for shaping an alternative society. Everything was set to go—an inspiring woodland location, a school plan, a bank account, and so on. Yet, despite this, the school did not start. I had greatly underestimated what it meant to build something together with others, in a specific place. My desire to create spaces where we can practice alternative ways of living remains strong. While it no longer takes the form of a school, it has evolved into a meeting place in Germany: a green oasis on the Moselle, where I give my meaning to the term regeneration. I bring my insights and experiences as a facilitator of the annual program. But more importantly, I bring with me the belief that everything is a process. No vision is set in stone. No plan unfolds exactly as imagined. And that’s a meaningful challenge. It brings me joy to nurture a space where your ideas can take root, especially in relation to building alternatives. Through the exercises we, as facilitators, offer and with the group’s support, your idea will come to life. The program provides the soil; together, we make it sprout. . Interested in the program? Leave a 💚 in the comments. . Re/generatie Maya Ouwehand
