Today, on July 3rd, new banknotes will be issued in Japan. The chosen portrait for the new 1,000 yen note is Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato, one of the founders of Terumo. 1921,as thermometer imports to Japan stopped due to war, Terumo was founded by a group of physicians and scientists, including Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato, to meet the desperate need for production of quality thermometers in Japan. Since its establishment, Terumo has been pioneering the development of various medical devices in Japan, supporting the foundation of healthcare in the country. We have developed numerous ""first in Japan"" and ""world's first"" devices, expanding our contributions to healthcare from Japan to the world. We will continue to work together as one Terumo Group and strive to be a valuable company for patients, medical professionals, and society at large. 1moTerumo's thermometers are fantastic! I went on a business trip to Japan in Nov 2009. On a third day there, I very inconveniently got sick. I was pretty certain I had a fever, but I didn't have a thermometer with me to take the temperature. I went to the hotel lobby to check if they had thermometers in their convenience store. They did, and that's how I got introduced to Terumo. Back in early 2000s, digital consumer thermometers available in the US were pretty pathetic, so I was sticking with an old mercury one from the 1980s. Boy, was I impressed with Terumo! It took about 30 sec to take the measurement, but it was always spot on (I cross-referenced it vs. my mercury once I got back to the US). Moreover, it reliably measured normal temperature, 36.6 C, which most other brands back then struggled with. It's 2024 now and guess what? I still have that thermometer, and it still works just fine! Even more amazingly, it still works with the original battery because I never replaced it, and I'm not even sure if the design allows for the replacement.
