Rivers are Life began with the concept that like-minded businesses, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and collaborators could come together to be the collective voice for rivers and help move the needle for river sustainability.
We are proud to be working with some genuinely world-changing partners like Louisiana State University Center of River Studies, who make our community possible.

The University of Notre Dame -- home of the Fighting Irish, also home of a binge-drinking campus culture like nowhere else, a culture which celebrates the Sunday-Wednesday grind just as much as the Thursday-Saturday bender.
So, what do we do about it?
In my new column, I discuss the importance of fostering an intentional, healthy relationship with drinking (or not drinking).

Let's practice being different, together! We will refer once again to Laura's list from, Cultivating Resilience, and focus on: practicing resilience in your community, learning how your ancestors nourished theirs, and a new resilient foodways skill.
That word. “Impressionable.” Ooof. This one really hit me.
When I think of the word “impressionable”my mind immediately thinks of a person who is young, naive, and inexperienced.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that’s not necessarily true. After thinking this through (or overthinking, depending on your point of view:) ) I would say that I am an “impressionable person”. This is not necessarily because I am young (well relatively a suppose), naive, or inexperienced.
When I dissect what I think it really means to be “impressionable”, especially in the context in which Deshauna Barber is using it, it means to be easily convinced one way or another, to not stand your ground under scrutiny or pressure, and particularly to to be susceptible to doubt, intrinsic and extrinsic.
And the more I thought about that the more a picture of a typical people pleaser came to form in my mind. Someone who is preoccupied with keeping harmony, to make sure that everyone around them is happy and comfortable, to remain “liked”. And that definitely describes me. It’s something I’ve been working on for a quite some time personally and professionally.
So I’ve known that I have a tendency to be a people pleaser, much like most women if not all women who have been conditioned by our society, but I’ve never thought of myself as “impressionable”, but there it is.
And it just made me think, “This is why…” This is why visibility and representation matter so much. This is why having role models and mentors is so important. Otherwise half the world population might get the wrong impression, future generations of women might get the wrong impression. And while being “impressionable” might have a negative connotation, there is the flip side of that. It means you can also be convinced that incredible things are quite possible, that we are capable of the extraordinary. We just have to be giving people the right impression.
