If you are at the Keller Splash show, please stop into my presentation. It is a fun discussion on “Cause and Effects on Water Chemistry!” (Maybe I am somewhat of a geek when I said “fun”!)

It is mostly unexplored, there is no oxygen or water (so far). It is a 'hot', young planet in the chemical universe. Our recent paper on mesoionic N-heterocyclic olefins was highlighted on the cover of this week's issue of Dalton Transactions. You can read the paper at https://lnkd.in/dJP4sRcc.

Anyone who has used GPC / SEC and wants context for how we figured out the method by which the gel permeation works: this is 3 pages of bliss. Context: I am on a deep dive into the history of GPC to better prepare myself for next week's Gulf Coast Conference training sessions. Information is something you can access whenever, wherever. I want to tell a story that resonates. And that means knowing how we got where we are today. This 1996 commentary by Henri Benoit, originator of the Universal Calibration technique, is and eloquent and accessible reflection on the 1967 paper that 1) provided evidence for the mechanism by which GPC works (SEC!) and 2) gave a way to use one class or structure of polymers to calculate true and accurate molecular weights from easily accessible narrow polymer standards.

Three internal shear mechanisms (UHPFRC-CA compression zone, aggregate interlock and dowel action) provide resistance against shear load before crack appearance in UHPFRC-CA beam but there’s hardly any practical means of measuring the contribution of compression zone. So this paper develops (1) an analytical method of quantifying the contribution of compression zone to UHPFRC-CA beam’s shear resistance (2) first shear cracking load equation to help in the calibration of loading steps during UHPFRC-CA beam’s shear experiment.

Characterizing a Mixed Mode Fluorocarbon/Weak Anion Exchange Sorbent for PFAS Separation A recent study spotlighted a new fluorinated weak anion exchange resin synthesized to increase selectivity for extraction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). We recently spoke to Emanuela Gionfriddo, corresponding author of the paper and a professor at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York, about the resin and the work behind it.
