“What the HQIM does is a lot of the prep work, so teachers can focus on what they do best. Kids are making up for being three years behind in one academic year.” Texas' new instructional materials for teachers are providing a better work/life balance, and their students are finally being taught at their grade level.

This cannot be expressed enough, especially in the world of L&D. A healthy amount of struggle is GOOD. I know as facilitators it’s so easy to jump in and “help”, but are we really? I would venture to say a lot of trainers (myself included) tend to feel the need to spoon feed information. We have so much knowledge on whatever we are teaching and want to share it. But often this reduces retention. I’ve heard peers over the years make comments like “sometimes it’s like teaching kindergarten, we have to spell everything out”. This couldn’t be further from the truth. If you haven’t already been introduced to the adult learning principals this article gives a great introduction: https://lnkd.in/gkParaV5

“How Does Learning Happen?” Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, promotes a shared view of children, families, and educators that will help shape all aspects of an early years program. Specifically: When we see children as competent, capable of complex thinking, curious, and rich in potential, we value and build on their strengths and abilities. When we see families as experts who know their children better than anyone else and have important information to share, we value and engage them in a meaningful way. When we see educators as knowledgeable, reflective, resourceful, and rich in experience, we value the experience and environments the create for children.” ”How Does Learning Happen?” Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, 2014

"How Children Learn" by John Holt explores alternative perspectives on education, emphasizing the natural ways children learn through curiosity and self-directed exploration. Holt challenges traditional schooling methods and encourages a deeper understanding of a child's innate learning abilities. Reading this book is valuable for those who wish to impact youth because it offers insights into fostering a supportive learning environment, acknowledging individual differences, and promoting a love for learning rather than relying solely on conventional educational practices. It encourages a reflective approach to education that can empower educators and parents to better engage with and guide the younger generation.

I will confess that when I started teaching, it took me a while to get on board with the idea of social and emotional learning. Like many busy teachers, I mistakenly thought it took away from "real" instructional time (I know, I know...). And then I read the findings from CASEL's Nationwide Policy Scan and the American Teacher Panel and American School Leader Panel Surveys: "Teachers who instruct their students in SEL are more likely to report that their schools have a positive school climate and that students are interested in learning." Lots of other good stuff in this report. https://lnkd.in/gt3U6Mui

🌟 Teacher Workforce and Standards: A Vital Evolution 🌟 In the evolving landscape of education, the professional standards for teachers and principals are under significant focus. Here in Queensland, new standards are being trialled with the potential for national adoption. This initiative is a crucial part of broader efforts to attract and retain a highly qualified workforce and to address workload issues through the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan. As an Education Storyteller and PR Consultant, I witness firsthand the remarkable dedication of educators. These new standards aim to ensure that this dedication is supported and recognized, fostering an environment where teachers and principals can thrive and continue to inspire. Let's champion these efforts and support our educators, who are the backbone of our communities. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient education system that meets the needs of both students and teachers. #Education #TeacherStandards #ProfessionalDevelopment #TeacherVoicesConsultancy #InspiringCommunities Read more about the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan https://lnkd.in/g5GAhDDR
