Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Post

Nearly everyone agrees that housing costs too much. So, what should we do about it? President Barack Obama addressed housing affordability in his DNC speech, declaring, "If we want to make it easier for more young people to buy a home, we need to build more units and clear away some of the outdated laws and regulations that made it harder to build homes for working people in this country." While it is encouraging to hear Obama and others at the DNC talk about today’s affordability crisis, we, as conservatives, must recognize that there is a right way and wrong way to go about fixing it. Instead of pressing for collective action, a better approach is to remove federal, state, and local governments from the equation to the greatest possible extent and let market forces determine the quantity of housing supply needed, the price point and incentives required, and everything else.

Housing anywhere isn't going to be affordable until materials costs get back to a reasonable rate. Concrete is a huge expense, and always has been a little steep. Lumber and plywood is expensive and low grade for the average builder/consumer. All imports. The regulations play a role as well to the local and commercial builder alike. Even harder on the Individual that is trying to shave every penny. Have to learn 3D printing to be innovative, because we do not have the manufacturing infrastructure to make the new inventions. Who wants to send to China? Or pay the overblown prices of a couple extremely backlogged companies that have foreign holders

Every time I see slums or rundown shabby neighborhoods in a city it’s more than likely that they’re government backed. Every time a local government accepts the Federal grants/bribes that come with “affordable housing” programs it is the start of downfall for that local. Crime goes up. Property values decline and public schools…well… nuff said Look around… the evidence screams.

It's disorienting to hear Barrack speak of deregulation (mostly good!) at the same time Kamala is calling for totalitarian measures like price controls and socialist measures like subsidized down-payments. Maybe we aren't supposed to notice the Orwellian disconnect.

You need to remember the reason it is up currently may have to do with the WEF stating you “will own nothing and be happy”, so we will become the rental state.
