Ep. 64: Changing the Narrative in TV with Andy Mundy-Castle Until relatively recently, the phenomenon of white British families fostering Black children of West African descent was unknown. That's changing, thanks to advocacy by the late, great rapper TY, reporting by Symeon Brown, and the Africa International Film Festival - AFRIFF and BAFTA award-winning documentary “White Nanny, Black Child." This practice started in the 1960s and continued into the 1990s. These fostered children are now parents, uncles, aunties, and maybe, in some cases, grandparents. Some of them were public figures. This experience left an indelible mark on the identities of many of them. In this episode, Christabel N., speaks with Andy Mundy-Castle, the film's director. They discuss making the film, navigating the British media industry, and what creators should consider when telling a sensitive, important story. Reclaim The Bernie Grant Arts Centre Call to Action: Saturday 29th June 2024 2pm - 5pm Big Thanks to the community for supporting Black Arts Production Theatre (BAP) 👏🏾👏🏾 Speakers: Justice4Windrush & the local community The BGAC come from the community for local artists and to give local employment. Let our voices be heard… join us on this day... Questions: 1. How is our local theatre being used? 2. How many community events have you seen at the BGAC? 3. What are the aims and objectives of the BGAC? 4. Is it reasonable to only give one-month to a rent increase?

The team gave it 280%. We’re partial to a football cliché at Studio Something, for our sins. We also like pushing ourselves to do better, and being open to learnings from our clients, to make work that people Genuinely Like. Here’s how we did all of these things along with Brentford Football Club for their latest series of “Thousands of Stories” (which has seen total engagements increase by 280% - and counting). Among other stories for last year’s series, we fitted manager Thomas Frank with a heart rate monitor during a Premier League game and showcased the club’s action for those affected by the Ukraine war. They were beautifully produced films and the response showed it, with some local earned media, 450k views, 10k+ engagements and support on socials from the likes of Her Game Too, Women in Football and the England National Team a decent result. The content equivalent of a routine 2-0 home win, like the Bees enjoyed at the weekend. But like our clients at Brentford who’ve seen their team rise from the lower leagues to a top 10 Premier League finish, we always want to improve and do bigger and better. We all agreed the films deserved to be seen by more people. The challenge to us for series two was therefore to amplify the films beyond Bees supporters and get more people talking. Like in football, marginal gains and tactical tweaks can make a big difference to results. So here’s how we did it. First, we added strong emotional hooks to the films. Whether it’s joy, shock or even something a bit unexpected, we know that the more people care, the more they share. Second, we created films relevant to passionate and engaged communities, who’ll circulate quality content that focuses on their particular cause. The team led by Greig Mailer & Nikita Rathod at Brentford were brilliant at unearthing fan stories for us that overlapped with these. The result? With just one film out of four posted we’ve already hit 40,000 engagements, featured on the Premier League’s Instagram account and been shared across Brentford forums, Reddit and social media. Genuinely Like ✅ We go again this Wednesday with film two in the series: The Dream.
"Was I about, six minutes, I assume dead?" Last April, lifelong Brentford fan Raymond Harrison suffered a cardiac arrest at our match against Newcastle United. Thanks to the quick responses of our stand manager Jake Mead-Baker and others, Ray's life was saved. This is his story ❤️ The Moment is the first film in this year's Thousands of Stories series that highlights the club's community. After the series launched last year, Thousands of Stories returns with four new short films focusing on fans. Follow our page to be the first to see the new episodes which will be released weekly.
