Law.com and reporter Habiba Cullen-Jafar spotlight the experiences of four remarkable female lawyers navigating the legal industry's challenges and triumphs. Despite significant progress, the journey for women in law remains complex, highlighting the need for continued support and systemic change. Featuring: - Heather Gagen of Travers Smith, inspired by Nancy Drew and driven by her mother's perseverance. - Laura Durrant of Equitura, guided by early admiration for a lawyer and now leading the Black Talent Charter. - Ursula Owczarkowski of Covington & Burling LLP, who turned problem-solving into a dynamic career in energy law. - Nadine Amr of Vinson & Elkins, inspired by her trailblazing grandmother and balancing partnership with parenthood. Their stories remind us that while representation has improved, much work remains to ensure equity and support for women in the field. Thank you, Law.com, and Habiba Cullen-Jafar for shedding light on these inspiring journeys. Women shouldn’t own property. They’re inferior & aren’t capable. Pardon our language… but F*CK that. Can you believe that this used to be the norm? The LAW? Today is International Women Day. Today we celebrate how far we have ALL come as we may not all be women, but we ALL have mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, close female colleagues and friends- and we all should want to promote a world that values equality. In 2024, here is what we as a society who promotes equality need to celebrate in terms of what women now represent: -62% of realtors -61.9% of property management -83.6% of escrow officers -83.9% of interior designers -AND single women homebuyers now have 10.95 million homes, while single men own 8.24 million What a change!!! Here’s to all the women before us who experienced hardship, to all the men and women who fought to change this, and to all the badass females who are proving that equality should exist. 💕 #women #bossbabes #bossbabesunite #womeninternationalday #equality #badasswomen

In continuing with our celebration of Women’s History Month, we asked YCBF President Christy Fawcett what advice she has for aspiring women in the legal field. #WomensHistoryMonth "A lawyer should be intellectual, empathetic, and have an understanding of the complexities and nuances of the people they deal with. Because they often follow non-traditional life and career paths, women frequently excel in these areas. If you want to be a force for positive change and be a leader in your community, become an attorney!"
