Accessible environments (slopes not steps, space not limitations) 'ensure and promote the full realization of all human rights... ...and fundamental freedoms for all persons with disabilities without discrimination of any kind on the basis of disability' as per the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. So often the designed and built environment are inaccessible and limit the lives of people with MS, mobility aid users, people with other health conditions. But there is another way to ensure access for everyone. Universal Design involves the design of the digital and built environments, services and systems, so they are accessible to everybody regardless of age, size, ability, or disability. The UNCRPD endorses Universal Design as the preferred approach. Make Europe accessible for everyone. #MS #BrainWeek #BrainAwarenessWeek #UNCRPD

Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) published a final rule under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that requires websites and mobile applications provided by state and local governments to meet WCAG 2.1 AA #DigitalAccessibility standards. Businesses should take heed: the new rule could be a blueprint for a similar revisions to Title III of the ADA, which could mean ‘‘public accommodations’’ -- or businesses open to the public -- would need to ensure their websites are accessible for all visitors. Did you know? In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require federal agencies to make electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual’s ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that help achieve these goals. The law applies to all federal agencies when they develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology. Under Section 508 (29 U.S.C. ` 794d), agencies must give disabled employees and members of the public access to information that is comparable to the access available to others. #Nclusivescan #inclusion #accessibility
