A fully mechanical heart that could replace the need for organ donation in heart transplant patients? It might sound like science fiction, but Joseph G. Rogers, M.D. recently made history by implanting the first BiVACOR total artificial heart (TAH) in a human patient. Dr. Rogers is president and CEO of The Texas Heart Institute, and a member of CardioVascular Care Providers Board of Directors. It’s another chapter in a long legacy of innovation at THI that goes back decades to 1969 when Dr. Denton Cooley (founder of CardioVascular Care Providers) implanted the first artificial heart in a human in America. #cvcp #healthcareinnovation #hearttransplant #TAH
