Trust In Healthcare Trust in health professionals is important because health and healthcare in general involves an element of uncertainty and risk for the vulnerable client who is reliant on the competences and intentions of their clinicians. As healthcare professionals our commitment to making ethical decisions based on our clients best interest is one of the fundamental elements in establishing and maintaining trust. Client safety also plays a significant role in healthcare since it directly affects clients well-being and trust. Providing a safe environment for clients is, and should be, a primary goal for healthcare organisations all around the world. Client safety measures are crucial in providing effective and compassionate treatment because they emphasise preventing errors, reducing adverse events, and improving overall healthcare quality. It is therefore with great pride that BTB can say that our very own lead Island psychiatrist and coach Dr Silvia Loustric was chosen to be safeguarding officer and coach during the recent Olympic Games in Paris. Featured on the hub today, the interim report of a review led by Dr Penelope Dash into the operational effectiveness and culture of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The review's findings are summarised around five topics: 1️⃣ Poor operational performance. 2️⃣ Significant challenges with the provider portal and regulatory platform. 3️⃣ Considerable loss of credibility within the health and care sectors due to the loss of sector expertise and wider restructuring, resulting in lost opportunities for improvement. 4️⃣ Concerns around the Single Assessment Framework (SAF). 5️⃣ Lack of clarity regarding how ratings are calculated and concerning use of the outcome of previous inspections (often several years ago) to calculate a current rating. The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) regulatory regime has been recently reviewed, taking into account the Single Assessment Framework (SAF). New, revised guidance for the CMS Facility Assessment tool requirement (F838) is now in effect, and providers need to be prepared to avoid non-compliance. While this tool was initially designed to be reviewed annually and include information on both the resident population and the resources required to provide adequate care, additional provisions have been defined which expand the scope of the tool and impose new expectations on providers.
