At the ERA ERTMS conference in Valenciennes last week, industry experts and decision-makers gathered to discuss the latest developments and future direction of #ERTMS. UNISIG played a significant role by organizing key workshops and discussions, focusing on operational harmonization, ETCS performance, and FRMCS implementation. It was a great opportunity to collaborate and share insights on advancing railway technology. During the conference, UNISIG presented a new position paper outlining how the harmonisation of ERTMS technology and principles can increase cost efficiency, and shift the focus from a national to a more European-based perspective. This discussion is especially important given upcoming deadlines related to TEN-T obligations, and the transition to FRMCS technology. Read the position paper here: https://lnkd.in/eBvpQKKU

What a great day at the #Railtech Europe 24th Conference in Utrecht, The Netherlands. And Jeroen Brandse of ADSE Consulting and Engineering was there to update us with a live report! The rail sector faces various challenges. One of these is the introduction of new technologies on the train to ensure it is future-proof. Many organization I spoke to are wrestling how and when to retrofit ERTMS solutions in their rolling stock, taking into account minimal withdrawal and maximum commonality within their fleet. How to perform the right test trials to not only ensure technical feasibility but in particularly get a grip on operational reliability, availability and maintainability of the system. And how to fit in adjacent technology introductions like FRMCS and ATO/RTO. ADSE supports organisations in gaining control over the complexity of these major system upgrades through a practical, clear and supported working method. We analyse the impact on operations, determine the technical, procedural and organisational challengers, calculate the business case, control version and release management and verify the safety risks, determine the best possible strategy for implementation, regardless whether this occurs incremental, hybrid or through a big bang. Finding the best solution given the customer’s specific context, that is what drives us. So yes, we consider ourselves guilty! 😉 How about you? Are you also a rail nerd? UNIFE | The European Rail Supply Industry Association together with UNISIG, is actively advocating through various media channels the urgent priority and need to accelerate the deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (#ERTMS). Michael Peter, UNIFE Chair and Siemens Mobility CEO, recently discussed the deployment of ERTMS in Railway Pro, emphasising the need to expedite its implementation to enhance the capacity, reliability, and attractiveness of rail travel across the EU. This is just an example of a recent publications to promote the deployment of ERTMS. #UNISIG and UNIFE will continue to work together to promote the benefits of ERTMS and the current needs identified by the industry. The main objective is to jointly introduce a Europe-wide harmonised operation, which can achieve more standardised technical solutions for a faster implementation of a more cost efficient and better performing railway system. 🚦 🚅 ERTMS conference in Valenciennes, France, this April. The International Railway Journal reports: “ERTMS still faces some major challenges to accelerate its deployment in Europe.” THE ERTMS conference this April was opened by Mr Josef Doppelbauer, executive director of the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), who set the scene. “Make it happen was the theme of this year’s conference,” he told delegates. “We need ERTMS to complete the Single European Railway Area (Sera). ERTMS and Sera are the basis for modal shift to rail.” (IRJ, 24) Read the full article here 👉 https://lnkd.in/edXBCiBN #ERTM24 #ertms #valenciennes

🚝 ERTMS: towards borderless rail mobility With the introduction of ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), Europe is heading for an unprecedented transformation of its rail network. By 2035, this ambitious system will connect every European country with a uniform signalling system, paving the way for trains to cross borders freely. Supported by European funding, this flagship project has multiple objectives: to boost the competitiveness of the railways, with increased traffic volumes, smoother running and greater regularity. All this while reducing the carbon footprint of our journeys. With centers of excellence across Europe and extensive expertise in rail signalling, SEGULA Technologies plays a key role in this transformation: • Design and development of signalling systems: architecture and integration. • Integration and commissioning of rail signalling equipment. • Preventive and corrective maintenance of systems. • Digitization and automation of signaling systems. • Technical support for rail operators. 📩 Let's talk about your projects: Francesco C. 🚆 ERTMS is revolutionizing train traffic control across Europe. Comprising ETCS and GSM-R, ERTMS aims to unify and standardize railway operations for seamless cross-border travel. Here’s a breakdown: 🚄 **ETCS**: The train control system ensuring safety and efficiency in operations. 📡 **GSM-R**: The communication backbone for real-time coordination between trains and control centers. Key benefits of ERTMS and ETCS working together: 🤝 **Interoperability**: Facilitating cross-country operations without signaling system changes. 🛡 **Safety**: Offering automatic train protection and real-time control for enhanced safety. 📏 **Standardization**: Deploying ETCS uniformly across Europe for simplified operations and cost reduction. In essence, ERTMS and ETCS form a harmonious duo, streamlining European rail management for improved performance and efficiency. 🚊🔧 Video credit : Siemens #ERTMS #RailwayTechnology #EuropeanRailways
