"Radiology Safety Practices: A Core Pillar of Our Profession 🛡️ Ensuring the safety of our patients and colleagues in the radiology department is more than a protocol; it's a commitment to health and well-being. With the increasing use of diagnostic imaging, it's crucial that we adhere to the highest standards of radiation safety. 🔹Stay Informed: Keep abreast of the latest safety guidelines and research. Regular training sessions can help us stay updated on best practices. 🔹Optimize Exposure: Utilize ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize exposure without compromising diagnostic quality. 🔹Protective Measures: Ensure that protective gear is always used and maintained properly, and that safety measures are in place for both patients and staff. 🔹Foster a Culture of Safety: Encourage open communication about safety concerns. A culture that prioritizes safety empowers everyone to contribute to a safer workplace. #RadiationSafety #Healthcare #Radiology"

Hello connections.. 🎖️ Today I received a certificate upon the completion of course named Radiation protection. Radiology department constitutes a big role in hospitals. It's very important to know about the radiation types and their hazards. 🎖️ Radiations are used in medical imaging for diagnosis and also therapeutic but It can cause some serious health hazardous like cancer and hereditary defects if it is higher than normal level and repeated exposures. 🎖️To protect the patient from radiation exposure, it's dosage must be optimised based on the tissue sensitivity as well as the dosage shouldn't affect the quality of the image. It is depend on the principle called (ALARA) As low as reasonably achievable. 🎖️ Protecting the patient is very important at the same time protecting the healthcare professionals who are working in the Radiology also a crucial factor. We are using collimator and grid to reduce the scatter radiation and lead aprons, gloves and glasses as a personal protective equipment. Designing of the Radiology room also a significant factor in radiation protection. 🎖️ Dosimeter is a medical device which is used to measure the amount of radiation exposed to the individuals. 🎖️Every healthcare workers should prevent themselves and patients from the unwanted radiation exposure. I hope this course will help me in the future perspective of Radiology . #radiology #hospital #biomedicalengineer #safety #radiation #healthcare

In the field of radiology, safety is not just a priority—it's a responsibility. The ALARA Principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) serves as a guiding star, helping radiology professionals. Like us, minimize radiation exposure while maintaining the diagnostic quality necessary for patient care. By applying the four core principles of Time, Distance, Shielding, and Optimization, we can protect patients, healthcare workers, and the community from unnecessary radiation risks. The future looks promising with advancements in technology, personalized radiation protocols, and enhanced real-time monitoring systems, all working towards optimizing safety and efficiency. Let’s continue to uphold the highest standards of radiation protection through ALARA and contribute to a safer, healthier future. #ALARA #RadiationExposure #Radiology #Technology #MedicalImaging #HealthcareExcellence #PatientSafety #InnovationInRadiology #MedicalPhysics #RadiationSafety #Patientcare #QualityAssurance #Healthcare #LowRadiation #Control #LessFrequency

MRI SAFETY Saturday 🔬 MRI Safety: Essential Practices for a Safe Imaging Environment 🏥 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a powerful tool in modern medicine, providing detailed images that are crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning. However, ensuring safety in the MRI suite is paramount to protect patients, staff, and equipment. Here are key considerations for maintaining MRI safety: 1. Screening: Rigorous screening of patients and staff for metal implants, devices, and external metallic objects is essential. This helps prevent injuries and equipment malfunctions caused by the strong magnetic fields. 2. Training: Continuous education and training for MRI technologists and support staff on the latest safety protocols and emergency procedures are vital. Knowledgeable staff can quickly identify and mitigate potential risks. 3. Zoning: Implementing and adhering to the four-zone safety system helps control access to the MRI suite and ensures that individuals are properly screened before entering the magnet room. 4. Signage and Communication: Clear and visible warning signs, along with effective communication among staff, help maintain a heightened awareness of safety protocols. 5. Emergency Preparedness: Establish and regularly drill emergency procedures for situations like quenching, patient distress, or equipment malfunction. Rapid response can make a significant difference in outcomes. 6. Equipment Checks: Regular maintenance and safety checks of MRI equipment ensure it operates correctly and safely. This includes monitoring the integrity of the magnetic field and ensuring that safety features are functional. By prioritizing these practices, we can maximize the benefits of MRI technology while minimizing risks. Let's work together to foster a culture of safety in every MRI suite! #MRISafety #HealthcareSafety #MedicalImaging #PatientCare

Thanks Prof Kalpana Kanal for sharing with us about CT Dose Metrics and concept of DRLS and ADs on Jan 27, 2024 GMT+8. Our takeaways included starting even manually if resources are very limited, for those involved to reach out to each other even in different countries in the region. For medical physicists to become more visible, interacting and giving talks even at residents level, to get hospital administrators and radiology leaders to understand how important it is. All are partners in this exercise - hospital administrators, department heads to technologists. #AOSR #AsiaSafe #Radiationsafety #Patientsafety
