Have you ever felt like your dreams were out of reach? You're not alone. You may relate to this personal story as it began with watching "The Wolf of Wall Street," a film that left me in awe of its storytelling and led me to question my own abilities as a filmmaker. However, that doubt soon went into determination. I came to understand that getting better at what I do requires patience, skill, and constant dedication. I learned the value of continual self-improvement and the importance of collaborating with other creatives. If you find yourself facing similar doubts or obstacles, my advice is to keep going. Keep making connections within the filmmaking community, seek opportunities for collaboration, and above all, remain committed to your passion. Our 2023-24 annual review is here!✨ As we wrap up another fantastic year at Into Film, we're celebrating the incredible impact that our team, the educators we work with, young people, and the wider screen industries have had in shaping young people's lives across the UK through film🎬 Over the past financial year, we've had some big changes at Into Film, including a refreshed programme with a sharper focus on careers, teaching, and filmmaking. These updates strengthen our mission to empower young people to watch, create, and engage with film and moving image, helping them discover their path into the screen industries. Some of our key highlights include: ⭐Over half of UK schools have engaged with the Into Film programme in the last 18 months ⭐125,022 teaching resources downloaded ⭐193 brand-new resources created ⭐99% of educators said Into Film helped their students develop literacy skills ⭐4,685 educators trained ⭐22,000 educators streaming Into Film+ ⭐389 competition entries from Young Filmmakers Into Film CEO Fiona Evans reflects on this year: "Since joining Into Film in April, I've been able to see first-hand the incredible work that goes on in collaboration with all our wonderful partners in schools, in communities and from across the screen industry. 🎬 Short Film Project at BELS! At my school, our prep-year students are actively working on a Short Film Project as part of our commitment to fostering global citizenship. 💡 Project Overview: Theme: Global Citizenship Structure: Students are working in groups to create 16 original short films from start to finish. Objective: To help students internalize the concept of being global citizens, not only in theory but also in practice. Throughout this project, we aim to: Develop students' critical thinking and collaboration skills. Enhance creativity and storytelling abilities through scriptwriting and filmmaking. Embed the values of global citizenship within both the curriculum and extracurricular activities. 📜 To guide them through the process, I’ve designed an 8-week plan for writing short film scripts, which I’m happy to share with you. Shortly after meeting at CMC, Chris Temple '12 and Zach Ingrasci '12 co-founded the nonprofit production company, Optimist. Their partnership has since produced more than 15 documentaries, viewed around the world on platforms ranging from Netflix to National Geographic to HBO. Now, with help from the Soll Center for Student Opportunity, the award-winning duo supports CMC students interested in pursuing careers in the creative sector. More specifically, their one-year Optimist Creative Fellowship provides students with hands-on experience in a range of filmmaking activities from on-set production and editing to creating community outreach and social impact campaigns. The first Optimist Fellows, Chelsea Luo ’25 and Lucy Goldberg ’25, are blending their creative and social impact interests, while learning skills applicable to the job market. Hey Students and Future Filmmakers! I've been hearing some concerns about inexperienced teachers in Film Production and related studies in colleges. If you're a student, it's important to make sure you're getting the best education possible from qualified instructors. Here are a few tips to help you out: Ask Questions: Don’t be afraid to ask your lecturer about their background, industry experience, and qualifications. A good lecturer will be open about their credentials and experience. Observe Their Teaching Style: Take note of how your classes are conducted. A mix of theory and practical application is key in film studies. If something feels off, trust your instincts. Chat with Your Peers: Talk to your classmates about their experiences. Sometimes, getting a different perspective can highlight issues you might have missed. Use School Resources: If you have serious concerns, reach out to your school’s academic office or student services. There’s usually a formal process to provide feedback or file a complaint about a lecturer. Stay Proactive: Remember, your education is in your hands too. Supplement your classes with self-study and stay updated with industry trends. Teaching is a passion, and it needs to be done right. If you feel your education is being compromised, speak up! ✨ Swiss Children's Film Strategy – Now Available in English🎬     In 2023, the Working Group Children’s Film from Switzerland launched its Children's Film Strategy, inspired by successful approaches in European countries. At the 2024 KIDS Regio Forum, the idea of an English translation was born to make this knowledge and vision accessible internationally. By the end of 2024, the English version was published and is now available for everyone! 🌍     📖The Swiss Children's Film Strategy takes an in-depth look at the state of children's cinema in Switzerland and Europe. It explores key issues such as the distinction between children's, youth and family films, and examines the role of film education. It analyses industry structures in nine European countries, providing insights into production, distribution and policy measures. A special section focuses on Switzerland, covering funding, public television, festivals and VoD platforms. Cinema has always fascinated me. I have always believed that this medium has immense potential to enlighten, reform and influence the society. It's definitely not just a means of entertainment. Good cinema, according to me should evoke thoughts and it should make you question the problematic elements of thesociety. In most of my Film Studies lecture at college, my professors do mention that the moment we start capturing things on camera, we hold a responsibility. It's not an apolitical act at all. What we choose to capture and show reflects what matters to us and what we are ignorant of. Filmmakers do have a responsibility on their shoulders and they hold the power to influence via their art, given the fact media has become such a vital medium for forming narratives. I have been following Humans Of Cinema for a long time now and I was totally in awe of the kind of content they curate revolving cinema. The moment I heard that they have put together a Film Studies Crash course, I knew I have to enrol myself and trust me, I am very happy about my decision making skills. The course dealt with the nuances of analysing a film and most importantly it made me realise that it's a lot more than series of moving pictures. There were a few elements which sounded familiar since a few concepts have their roots in English literature, the discipline I am majoring in but there was so much I didn't knew and believe me there is a lot to learn.
