Feel like i've spent (nearly) decades thinking about the use of hamburger menus (née 1981), on desktop versions of e-commerce websites. Some argue that the hamburger menu can provide a clean feel and serve as a secondary access navigation tool, especially for options of less importance. Others express concerns about the discoverability and usability of hidden menus on desktop interfaces, emphasising that top-level navigation links are more effective for desktop designs with plenty of screen space. It may also hide important navigation options and require extra actions from users. Ultimately the decision to use a hamburger menu on a desktop e-commerce website should be based on the specific needs and user experience goals of the site. It's important to consider factors such as the number of menu items, screen space optimisation, and the overall user journey. I'd also chuck in brand equity as a consideration. It can present a more elevated feel, when it's a little less cluttered up top. Conducting A/B testing and carefully evaluating the unique pros and cons for a particular website can help in making an informed decision about the use of a hamburger menu. Take note though, 'best-practice' is only best-practice until the next best thing comes along. So sometimes you gotta break the rules 🤘 to be in front. Holler if you like a hamburger? 🍔 #designthinking #ecommerce #hamburger

CASE: CUSTOM ADD TO CART BUTTON + CART PAGE OPENING Delving into a recent case study, we collaborated with a client navigating the landscape of a landing page-style website, featuring a singular, standout product. Their specific request? An innovative addition – custom buttons strategically placed in diverse widgets that not only added the product to the cart but also instantly opened the cart page. Our client operates a landing page-style website with a single product available for purchase. The client's request was to implement buttons in various widgets that, when clicked, would add the product to the cart and open the cart page. Here's what we did: Due to certain limitations with the existing product widget, we opted to code custom buttons within different widgets. Upon clicking these buttons, the cart page opens with the selected item. Additionally, we incorporated a product selection feature in the customization settings. The outcome: Visitors to the website can now seamlessly add items to their carts and proceed directly to the checkout process without the need to navigate to the product page. This enhancement streamlines the user experience, saving valuable time for potential customers. #ecommerce #bussiness #digitalmarketing #linkedin #button #cart #userfriendly #userexperience #ecommerceworks #webdevelopment
