Today, the Yellowhead School launched an online course - Landback - an open access online course about the ways Canada dispossesses Indigenous people of the land -- and the strategies communities are using to get it back. I am looking forward to broadening my understanding of Landback and of what a just future looks like. I encourage all to sign up and take this open course, an act of reconciliation on a day we need to reflect on truths. https://lnkd.in/er3pFAsV

“We did not own the land, we belonged to it.” This Nonprofit Quarterly article highlights stories of land reclamation and healing justice from 2023, and articulates "how land recovery (described within the frameworks of land rematriation and land reclamation) can be a healing process, how land can anchor power building." Including news from the Winnemem Wintu Tribe and grantee partners Sogorea Te Land Trust, Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples among others, this comprehensive read underlines the reasons why supporting land return is a multi-impactful approach to supporting Indigenous nations and BIPOC communities. https://lnkd.in/gppeJ68y #SpiritualEcology

Sharing a great new free resource developed by the Inner North Community Foundation, for proactively planning for your future legacy. I can vouch for the usefulness of this simple tool, and the careful thought that's gone into it, as I'm lucky enough to sit on the Foundation's Board. See link below. Or if you live, work or play in the Merri-bek City Council, Yarra City Council, or Darebin City Council areas, and would prefer a hard copy, please drop me or Ben Rodgers a note. No strings attached :) #leavealegacy #sorted Carolyn Phiddian Jo Barraket AM Michael Howard Eamonn Fennessy Craig Kenny Nic Vogelpoel Bianca Maciel Pizzorno Rachel English Kevin Breen Alex Brooks
From our work at the Inner North Community Foundation, we are aware that end of life is difficult for people, and not everyone knows exactly what to do about it. ‘Leave a Legacy, Not a Mess’ is a community resource to help people make it easier for their family and friends to manage their estate when they die. It consists of a list of things people could consider doing now to tidy up their estate and avoid the often difficult issues which arise for those left behind. In consultation with our community, we have developed this checklist. https://lnkd.in/gXJqeNHa Learn more https://bitly.cx/ef4Rl

Interesting that DAFs outpaced contributions. these are Community Foundations DAFs not those at private financial institutions which have been criticized as more tax avoidance than charitable endeavors. Think of these were also deployed in communities, the change that could occur. There is so much secrets keeping about DAFs. There needs to be greater transparency and accountability given the tax preferences for these vehicles which have or should have not only a charitable goal but a goal that is actioned.
Check out this informative piece on community foundations DAF activities by my Council on Foundations colleague David Rosado via Candid. https://lnkd.in/eCbyZhQh
