Building on years of implementing projects locally, engaging with the government and collaborating with partners for catalytic financing towards developing a circular economy for plastic, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve signed a letter of intent for a co-investment partnership with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works and Housing (MPWH). Together, we aim to improve solid waste management (SWM) services in select cities and districts in Indonesia by enhancing and developing waste management infrastructure. The collaboration is expected to benefit over 9 million people. By offering climate-aligned, circular economy-driven solid waste management services, it seeks to help build capacity for local and regional governments, and address livelihood concerns for informal waste workers. 🤔What if our waste is just collected but not properly treated? For billions around the world, this is a daily reality that often goes unnoticed. At Recovered Indonesia (RECO), we're dedicated to changing this narrative. We visualize a future where every coastal remote city across Indonesia, particularly outside Java province where waste management is non-existent could have access to proper waste management systems. 🌊 Through our efforts in establishing decentralized waste management solutions and Plastic Recovery Centers, we aim to ensure recycling is available for everyone, everywhere. ♻️ Let's collaborate to solve Indonesia's waste problems, one city at a time. It is us, the industry itself, that needs to take responsability. FMCG-producers wait for the packaging-industry; packaging-industry waits for recyclers; and everybody feels households need to solve the problem. But households will not do so, just because they cannot. We, as an industry, need to act and find solutions. And I believe that in the final end only compostables can answer this challenge.

A pretty normal sight here! Unfortunately, this is the Indonesia we see today, a part of Asia which is leading the way for all the wrong reasons. Along with the Philippines, the waste flow into the environment seems to be picking up speed, not the reverse! "Ocean Recyclers" in the NGO and private space can't do this alone, does it require a full shift or re-engineering the packaging manufacturing process? If so, this problem may never change! Question: What can we do now at scale, other than pulling tiny amounts out of the rivers and ocean? Because I'm running out of ideas! 💡 #help #oceanplastic #plasticpollution

👀 Did you know? By the end of 2022, 4,341 Waste Banks (originally named "Bank Sampah") were already up and running across 34 of Indonesia’s 38 provinces. But what's their magic? ✅ They’re easy to set up ✅ Don’t need much space ✅ Offer a win-win situation for everyone involved, and ✅ Leave neighbourhoods looking cleaner 🔱 At Free The Sea, we help fund the crucial work of 15 of these facilities in boosting local waste management efforts. So overall, waste banks are proof that when communities come together for the environment, everyone benefits! 🤝🌏 Source: SageJournals #BankSampah #WasteBanks #WasteManagement #PlasticPollution #RescuedPlastic #Recycling #RecyclingIdeas #RecyclingProject #Upcycling #Sustainability

Doctor in Sustainable Development Management | Deputy Director for Market Transformation (Indonesia) at RSPO
Sustainable Consumption Starts Here: Driving Change Through Midstream and Downstream Impact Investments On March 15, we had the privilege of engaging in a thought-provoking discussion with Fitrian Ardiansyah, Bangkit Oetomo and Andy Tjia ACA of ADM Capital about the transformative potential of impact investment in the palm oil sector. Our conversation went beyond conventional approaches, as we explored the significance of addressing both production and consumption landscapes. We emphasized the importance of mirroring the jurisdictional approach on the demand side to promote sustainability across the entire supply chain. Establishing a sustainable palm oil city model similar to the one initiated by Chester Zoo in Chester, UK, is viable in Indonesia. One key takeaway was, by channeling resources into downstream and midstream initiatives, we aim to boost the availability and uptake of traceable, sustainable palm oil products in Indonesia, while simultaneously raising awareness about the importance of responsible sourcing. It's encouraging to see how partnership and strategic investment can drive positive change in industries crucial to our planet's well-being. Please share your thoughts and let's continue to work together towards a more sustainable future! https://lnkd.in/g3wFhb4s The UK city taking a stand on palm oil in the fight against deforestation #RSPO #RSPONext20 #SustainablePalmOil #ImpactInvestment Niki Nofari
