In combat sports, understanding and controlling range are essential for success. Fighters must manage the distance between themselves and their opponents to land strikes effectively while avoiding incoming attacks. Similarly, in life and business, recognizing and adapting to different ranges of interaction is crucial. Whether it's maintaining personal boundaries, negotiating deals, or managing relationships, the ability to gauge and adjust one's range enhances effectiveness and mitigates risks.

I compartmentalize every chess move in 4 strategic contexts after playing more than 3,000 3-minute games: 1. Attack - Applying basic maneuvers and tactics to checkmate the opponent. 2. Counterattack - Trading equal pieces to mitigate attack from opponent. 3. Deception - Moving or sacrificing pieces to gain control of the board. 4. Defense - Maneuvers to primarily avoid losing without applying pressure on opponent. But strategy is only one piece of the game. The other piece is knowing the temperament of your opponent and knowing when to apply these moves. For example, an opponent who moves pieces abruptly (less than 1 second) is more likely to fall for deception and counterattacks. For this opponent, it is best to be in the defensive position in the opening and start counterattacking by the 4th or 5th move. For the patient opponent (3-5 seconds before next move), it is best to apply overwhelming force, and disrupt their concentration by attacking and counterattacking within the first 5 moves. However, in both cases, psychological ploy needs to be merged with strategic discernment to either win by domination or time. #UselessInformation #Chess
